Who’s Winning the Georgia Senate Race?
According to Kalshi - one of the best US prediction markets today - Ossoff currently has a 95% chance of winning his reelection bid. That’s a sizable number for a Senator who only won his runoff election six years ago with 50.6% of the vote. Based on Kalshi’s market predictions, Ossoff took a lead in the race in March, and his chances of winning have been growing considerably ever since. Of course, the polls aren’t quite as lopsided. Georgia Senate Race Explained
In 2020, Ossoff and Republican incumbent David Perdue went to a special runoff election after neither earned a majority of the vote in the general election. Perdue actually received more votes than Ossoff in the general election, amassing 49.73% of the vote compared to Ossoff’s 47.95%. However, with Ossoff and Perdue being the only two candidates on the ballot in the runoff, Ossoff won with 50.4% of the vote. He’s now hoping to retain the Senate seat he’s held for six years.
On the Republican side, Collins is making his first bid for the Senate. He’s represented Georgia’s 10th district in the U.S. House of Representatives for the last four years, getting elected in 2022 and winning reelection in 2024. In the Republican primary, Collins triumphed on a ballot that had five candidates. He earned 40.5% of the vote, winning with a 10-point cushion over former college football coach Derek Dooley and finishing 15 points ahead of fellow House member Buddy Carter, who were his top two competitors in the primary.
Why the Georgia Result Decides Senate Control
It was something of a surprise when both Ossoff and fellow Democrat Raphael Warnock won special runoff elections during the 2020 cycle, giving Georgia two Democratic Senators. At the time, it had been nearly 20 years since Georgia had two Democrats in the Senate. With Warnock winning reelection in 2022, Democrats can retain two Senate seats in Georgia if Ossoff can win his reelection. To take control of the Senate this election cycle, Democrats need to flip four seats currently held by Republicans. Of course, that math assumes all current Democratic Senators up for reelection retain their seat, making Ossoff an important part of the Democrats achieving their majority in the Senate.
How to Trade the Georgia Senate Market
If you’re interested in trading on the Georgia Senate race or any other midterm election, best political betting sites assign a value to every candidate between 1¢ and 99¢. This is the price per share to trade a contract for that candidate. That number also indicates the implied probability of that candidate winning. The closer to 99¢, the more likely that candidate is to win based on market trends, and vice versa for candidates who are closer to 1¢. Contracts on the winning candidate are resolved for $1 after election day. The profit per share is the difference between $1 and the original price of the contract. For example, if a contract was traded at 80¢ per share, the profit will be 20¢ per share if that candidate wins.

At the moment, Ossoff’s lead over Collins looks comfortable. However, Democrats have no guarantees in a state that typically voted Republican until a few years ago, especially since Ossoff barely won his seat six years ago. Collins is making an effort to paint Ossoff as too liberal and progressive in what is now considered a purple state. To overcome his current deficit, Collins will need to win over independents and undecided voters. Meanwhile, Ossoff needs to do well in suburban areas, especially his home district outside of Atlanta, if he hopes to secure the election by a comfortable margin and avoid another runoff.
