The Dubai tournament could be considered a warm-up for the first Premier 5 event of the year.
The tournament has drawn in many star players, leading to a fairly strong field.

2019 Dubai Tennis Championships Result: Third round.
Kenin will be playing in her first WTA tournament since the Australian Open title.
The young American star recently helped Team USA get past Team Latvia during the Fed Cup qualifiers.
Kenin has made two other appearances in 2020, dropping out in the second round at the Brisbane International and at the Adelaide International.
Her road to the first career major title was highlighted by wins over current world number 1 Ashleigh Barty and former number 1 Garbine Muguruza.
Kenin has been tipped as one of tennis future superstar players, and she’s been living up to the expectations.
If her form from the Australian Open carries over to Dubai, the American has to be considered one of the best picks for the week.
2020 record: 6-2, 0 titles

2019 Dubai Tennis Championships Result: Quarterfinals.
Halep will be making her first WTA Tour appearance since the Australian Open.
The former world number 1 was eliminated in the semifinals.
Up to that point, Halep had not dropped a single set in the first five matches.
The Romanian also made an appearance at the Adelaide International but was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Halep won the Dubai tournament in 2015, and made it to the quarterfinals last year, losing to eventual champion Belinda Bencic.

Is Muguruza finally back?
The two-time major champion and former world number 1 has definitely looked impressive this year.
Muguruza made it to the semifinals at the Shenzhen Open and to the quarterfinals at the Brisbane International, withdrawing from the latter.
She then reached the Australian Open final but suffered a comeback loss to Sofia Kenin.
Muguruza still piled up wins over three top 10 players, Elina Svitolina, Kiki Bertens, and Simona Halep, all without dropping a single set.
If her form doesn’t suffer a massive drop, the former number 1 should be in contention for the title.
2020 record: 2-3, 0 titles
2020 prize money: $136,706
2019 Dubai Tennis Championships Result: Semifinals.
Svitolina has a great record at the Dubai Championships.
The Ukrainian won back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018.
She made it to the semifinals last year, losing to eventual champion Belinda Bencic in three sets.
Svitolina had an up-and-down 2019 but ended the year on a high as the WTA Finals runner-up.
Her start to the 2020 season hasn’t been particularly great, however.
She lost in the first round at the Brisbane International and in the third round at the Australian Open.
However, Svitolina’s Dubai record could power her to another good run this year.
