These two sides have crossed paths 28 times previously, of which Mumbai Indians won 15 games while Punjab Kings tasted victory on 13 occasions. However, given their horrendous form, we have predicted Mumbai Indians to lose this game despite their supremacy in head-to-head statistics.

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Dewald Brevis, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Kieron Pollard, R Sanjay Yadav, Murugan Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills, Riley Meredith.
Punjab Kings: Mayank Agarwal (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Jitesh Sharma, Shahrukh Khan, Odean Smith, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Vaibhav Arora, Arshdeep Singh.
Mumbai Indians will lock horns with Punjab Kings in the 23rd match of the 2022 Indian Premier League Season at Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Wednesday, 13th April.
Mumbai Indians might be the five-time champions of this competition but that has turned to be irrelevant this season, as they have not got going at all and have lost four consecutive games. Rohit Sharma’s team started out with a four-wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals, before Rajasthan Royals handed them a 23-run loss. Pat Cummins’ sensational batting for Kolkata Knight Riders resulted in Mumbai Indians’ third consecutive defeat, while in their last outing, the boys in blue suffered a comprehensive seven-wicket defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Mumbai’s next assignment is against Punjab Kings – a team that has had a stop-start campaign so far. They won their first match by five wickets against RCB, before losing out to Kolkata Knight Riders in their second match. Mayank Agarwal’s men bounced back in fashion with a convincing 54-run triumph against Chennai Super Kings, but failed to capitalize on the winning momentum once again as Gujarat Titans handed them a six-wicket loss in their previous fixture.
With Ishan Kishan, Tilak Verma and Suryakumar Yadav being in good touch, Mumbai Indians’ batting contingent looks slightly better off than their bowling department. Accordingly, Mahela Jayawardene and his think tank could try to strengthen the bowling contingent by including two overseas pacers in Tymal Mills and Riley Meredith at the expense of Jaydev Unadkat and Basil Thampi respectively. Besides that, we could expect another change in their playing XI. Ramandeep Singh was given an opportunity in the last game against Royal Challengers Bangalore but he could not impress, scoring only 6 runs in 12 deliveries. He could make way for all-rounder R Sanjay Yadav, who will provide another spin bowling option to Rohit Sharma.
Punjab Kings lost the last game by the narrowest of margins and we have predicted the roll the same playing XI for this match as well. However, Anil Kumble’s management group has a lucrative plan B available. Odean Smith has not been particularly impressive in the recent fixtures and he could be replaced by youngster Raj Angad Bawa, which will then allow PBKS to field Bhanuka Rajapaksa in place of Shahrukh Khan, who has scored only 21 runs in his last three matches.
Liam Livingstone: Punjab Kings broke their bank for Liam Livingston in the IPL 2022 auction and the Englishman is proving why it was the correct decision. He is currently the leading run-scorer for Punjab, having scored 162 runs in four matches at an average of 40.50 and an even better strike rate of 190.58, while he also has scalped a couple of wickets. The 28-year-old has struck two half-centuries already – against Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.
Suryakumar Yadav: Suryakumar Yadav missed Mumbai Indians’ opening two fixtures owing to an injury, and while his team lost the two matches where he featured as well, the 31-year-old batter has given his side a massive boost. He has scored 120 runs in two matches at an average of over 100 and a strike rate of 164.38. He scored 52 runs in his first IPL 2022 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders and then played a sensational knock of 68 runs in the last outing against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
