Bottom-placed Hyderabad can spoil the party for Bangalore
With a hard-fought win against Punjab in their last match, Bangalore became the third team to guarantee their place in the playoffs of IPL 2021. After a poor start in UAE, which saw them losing two back-to-back matches, Virat Kohli’s men have done really well to turn things around quickly and secure their qualification with two games to spare.
While the primary job is done, there is something else Bangalore would want to ensure. Delhi Capitals have confirmed a top two slot, and Bangalore are in a battle with Chennai Super Kings for the other slot. Hence, the next two matches are crucial for them. The same cannot be said about Hyderabad, who are miles behind everyone else in the points table, with just two points. Kane Williamson’s team suffered yet another defeat in their last match against Kolkata, and would ideally want the league phase to finish as soon as possible.
Team News
Since they won their last match against Punjab, Bangalore might not want to make changes to their winning combination. But if Virat Kohli & Co. still wants to plug some holes, they can bring Kyle Jamieson into the equation for this match. Daniel Christian is not proving to be much effective, as he scored a duck and went wicketless in his last match. Given that Bangalore’s batting department is looking pretty solid, they can strengthen their bowling department by playing both George Garton and Kyle Jamieson against Hyderabad.
The scenario is pretty different in the Sunrisers camp. Nothing is going according to plans for them, and their management will be keen to get the team combination right for the last two matches. Umran Malik generated impressive pace in his IPL debut, but failed to pick up wickets. He might have to make his way for Sandeep Sharma in this match. On the other hand, Abhishek Sharma also failed to justify his place in the team, and given that their batting department is looking fragile, Hyderabad can play an extra batter in Manish Pandey, in Sharma’s place.
Key Players
Glenn Maxwell: Glenn Maxwell scored yet another half-century in the last match against Punjab Kings. It was his fifth overall, and third consecutive half-century in this edition’s IPL. The Australian all-rounder is the highest run-scorer for Royal Challengers Bangalore, having scored 407 runs in 12 matches.
Harshal Patel: Like Maxwell, Harshal Patel is also enjoying a fantastic campaign after going under the radar in the last few seasons. He is the current owner of the Purple Cup, having picked up 26 wickets in 12 matches. The 30-year-old did not have a great game against Punjab, but in the three matches prior to that, he picked up 9 wickets, which includes the only hat-trick of this season’s IPL.
