Seattle Surge vs New York Subliners Pick

New York Subliners to win

Third-placed New York Subliners take on eighth-placed Seattle Surge in this weekend’s CDL Major-3 action. This was to be a top-of-the-table clash, but contrasting seasons for both sides threaten to make this one-way traffic, with Subliners touted as strong favorites.

Not long ago, this very clash brought the curtains down in Major-1 with the Subliners emerging from the lower bracket to inflict revenge against Seattle, eventually winning 4-1 to secure the title in Raleigh, North Carolina, last November.

Incidentally, it was Seattle who had relegated them to the lower bracket earlier in the competition, which is why victory was even sweeter when it arrived eventually. This healthy rivalry fostered over the years has added a zing to the contest between these two teams every single time. This is why, contrasting as their fortunes may be presently, there’s plenty to look forward to.

Ever since the 2023 season has kicked off, Subliners have been a defiant outfit. Wins at Major 1 was a massive shot in the arm, and that confidence has had a boomerang effect. They continue to deliver big results, like in the previous week where they were one of the only teams to win both their games. Rokkr and Mutineers were crushed without even being given an inkling of a chance.

Surge in Need of Momentum

Surge have looked off-color but only need to channel the spirit of July 2022, where after two seasons of struggle and impulsive roster overhauls, they managed to put things together to be crowned champions.

After a promising start to the 2022 season by finishing second in the Kickoff Classic, they deviated from their success formula ahead of CDL Major-3 last year. But just when you wondered if they’d be able to find their victory formula, they delivered. It’s that kind of form they will have to recreate to be able to stand a chance this time around as well.

Can Pred, who became the first Australian CDL champ through his wholehearted individual brilliance, reclaim some of that old MVP-winning form to trigger the turnaround?

For the longest time, Subliners were building towards Major-4 with the dream of hosting it. Every aspect of their preparation centered around playing in front of their fans and giving them the experience to savor. The move to Columbus now scuppers some of their plans, but there’s still a chance to win over new fans with their aggressive style of play. This is an opportunity to add another chapter to their illustrious history.

Before all that, there’s a simple matter of passing another litmus test. It’s as testing as they come. And it’s a rivalry to savor. Seattle vs New York - a compelling battle that can completely take out of the equation the points table, current form. Because it’s one contest punters, fans and experts mark out while drawing up a list of must-watches.
