  • Evil Geniuses face TSM in the LCS Summer 2023 playoffs this Thursday. Evil Geniuses are the clear favorites to win this match. They won both their matches against TSM in the league this season.
  • Evil Geniuses finished the league in third place with 12 wins and six losses. They were knocked out in round 2 of the playoffs last season.
  • TSM finished the season in sixth place with eight wins and 10 losses. They head into this tie on the back of a four-game losing streak. They didn’t qualify for the playoffs last season.

Evil Geniuses vs TSM Prediction

Evil Geniuses vs TSM Prediction

Evil Geniuses are the overwhelming favorites heading into this match and for good reason. They are on a three-game winning streak heading into this tie. In stark contrast, TSM are on a four-game losing streak going into this match.

Evil Geniuses have also beaten TSM twice this season and managed this quite comfortably. They’ve also got a better win-loss record, which is reflected in the positions on the table, with Evil Geniuses in third place and TSM in sixth.

There’s almost nothing suggesting that TSM will get something out of this match. They don’t have form or head-to-head records on their side. There’s also a significant gap in quality between the two sides.

Of course, there isn’t a lot of value in picking Evil Geniuses for this match, and a lot of value in picking TSM, but there are other matches in the LCS where value will be a factor; this match isn’t one of them. We strongly suggest picking the safe bet for this match.

Evil Geniuses Have Regained Form at the Perfect Time

Evil Geniuses are looking sharp again, with three wins in their last three league matches. Before this excellent run, they’d lost four matches on the bounce. This won’t come as a surprise to those who’ve followed Evil Geniuses over the years: they’ve always been a streaky team.

They tend to turn up when it matters but also have a habit of sleeping through a few games. They usually turn things up a notch in the playoffs, so we’re expecting them to continue in the same vein for the rest of the tournament. This is the last thing TSM would’ve wanted, but it’s often how Evil Geniuses do things. They like to lull teams into a false sense of security before ripping them apart.

Of course, it must be noted that Evil Geniuses’ inconsistencies cost them last season. They didn’t have a good league campaign by their own high standards and were destroyed 3-0 by Golden Guardians in round 2 of the playoffs last season. They don’t look as vulnerable this season, but it’s a reminder that Evil Geniuses can be gotten at.

However, TSM don’t look like the sort of team that could match up with Evil Geniuses. They lost both their matches to Evil Geniuses this season. They simply don’t have the quality to target some of Evil Geniuses’ weaknesses.

Evil Geniuses’ Jojopyun hasn’t been at his best this season. He used to average over 4 kills per game not too long ago but now averages just 3.76 kills per game. This isn’t poor by any means but one of the factors that made Evil Geniuses so menacing was having two players who averaged over 4 kills per game.

The bot laner FBI is still going strong with an average of 4.76 kills per game. He also averaged 4.56 assists and 2.28 deaths per game. FBI and Jojpyun might not have enough to get the better of Golden Guardians and Cloud9 but they’ve still got enough to go past the likes of TSM.

Some of their weaknesses were exposed last season, and the staff should’ve addressed this during the summer break, but it shouldn’t factor heavily in this match. We think they’ll be quite comfortable against TSM.

TSM Haven’t Changed Much Since Last Season

TSM had a win-loss record of eight wins and 10 losses last season. They have a win-loss record of eight wins and 10 losses this season as well. They lost their two matches against Evil Geniuses last season, and the same was repeated this season. The only difference this season is that they’ve qualified for the playoffs, unlike last season.

Qualifying for the playoffs is no small matter, so they must be congratulated for the same, but they haven’t taken big steps forward despite adding three new players in the summer: Huanterz, Insanity, and Ruby.

Of the three players, Insanity has had the biggest impact. Since joining the side in May, he has averaged 4.47 kills per game, 2.73 deaths per game, and 3.8 assists per game. His numbers are up there with the best players in the league, so this has undoubtedly been a successful addition. However, they’ll need a lot more to go further in the competition.

Despite having a player in their roster who can compete with Evil Geniuses’ FBI statistically, they haven’t got a team that can go toe-to-toe with Evil Geniuses. Their biggest win of the season was against Golden Guardians, last season’s runners-up and this season’s second-best team in the league, but they’ve struggled in most of the other matches against the top sides in the league.

They also go into this tie on the back of a four-game losing streak. They will be quite low on confidence, so we can’t really see them getting something out of this match.
