Optix Texas are overwhelming favorites heading into this match, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. Optic Texas have the best win rate in the CDL this season (66%) and are second on the table with 270 points. Boston Breach, on the other hand, have a win rate under 50%.
Optix Texas also have a phenomenal record against Boston Breach, with five wins in their last six head-to-head meetings. There’s almost no value in picking them, but it’s hard to see any other than an Optic Texas win in this match.
There’s quite a gap in terms of quality between the two teams, and Optic Texas have been in pretty good form, so you’d expect them to continue that run. Boston Breach has been quite patchy, which is very like them. As boring as it sounds, it’s best to go with the safe bet for this match and look for value in some of the other matches in the CDL this week.
Optic Texas had a stuttering campaign last year after making an excellent start. They won Major 1 but didn’t do enough later in the season to show for their dominant league campaign. They got to the semifinal of the Pro AM classic, but even that tournament was a bit underwhelming, considering the expectations before the tournament.
No team has a better win rate in the league this year, and this was the case for most of last season, but Optic Texas have struggled to perform in the big tournaments. Of course, winning even one Major is a fantastic achievement, but more is expected of Optic Texas.
They have an excellent record on all three game modes; no team in the league can boast of a better record. On Hardpoint, they’ve won 41 and lost 36 this season. To think that this is their weakest game mode shows just how strong they are. Of course, Hard Point is a game mode that many CDLs prefer, which is why teams have had some success against Optic Texas on this map this season and over the years. If they were a bit stronger in this game mode, they’d hardly lose a match.
No starting member of the roster averages a KD below 1.01 on this game mode, which shows just how packed with quality they are. The same can’t be said for all their members on Control, but it doesn’t matter because they have an even better win-loss record on this map. They’ve won 30 and lost 17 matches this season on the map. Dashy has been phenomenal on this map, with 18.1 kills per 10 minutes and an incredible KD of 1.24. With numbers like that, you can carry two to three members.
The record on Search & Destroy is also quite impressive. They’ve won 37 and lost 23 matches in this game mode. Shotzzy, in particular, has looked good in this game mode with 0.82 kills per round and 1.15 KD. Whatever happens going forward for Optic Texas in the latter stages of Majors and other prestigious tournaments, teams like Boston Breach shouldn’t be much of an issue.
The Boston Breach have been a bit inconsistent all season. It’s hard to see them getting something out of this game, but they can approach it with nothing to lose. It’s a chance for them to see how they match up with the best teams in the CDL.
Boston Breach can’t match Optic Texas in terms of quality, but they’ve overachieved in the past. They got as far as the losers final in the Major 2 last year. They’ll need the sort of good fortune that got them that far in the Major 2 for this match.
They have a flexible roster with stars for each game mode. They can match Optix Texas on Hardpoint since they have a similar win rate; they won 35 and lost 33 matches on the game mode this season. Nero has a tremendous kills per 10 minutes average of 25.9 on this game mode, but he isn’t the strongest defensively, as the 0.95 KD suggests. He is more than capable of rattling Optic Texas in this mode.
Boston Breach don’t have the best record on Control, with a win-loss record of 16-23. Nero is the most impressive member of the roster in this mode as well. He averages 18.5 kills per 10 minutes, but his KD of 0.89 is quite concerning. He needs to control his aggression for this game and all other matches in the CDL.
Boston Breach will have to play out of their skin to get a result in this match. They’ve won just once in their last six encounters. They know it can be done, but it’ll be extremely difficult. We think it’ll be a step too far for Boston Breach this week.
