LIV Golf returns to Mexico City for a second time, and to a course that many of its stars have thrived on in the past.

  • Jon Rahm is looking to rebound from his Masters disappointment

  • Bryson DeChambeau suffered an even worse fate at Augusta: he missed the cut

  • Tyrrell Hatton, on the other hand, finished T3 in the year’s first major championship

LIV Golf Mexico 2026 Predictions

LIV Golf Mexico Intro

In finishing T3 at last week’s Masters, Tyrrell Hatton recorded his best-ever major championship performance and added to a creditable 2025 effort of three top 20s in the tournaments that define a career.

But the Englishman was the only LIV golfer who did enjoy the visit to Augusta National.

Jon Rahm finished T38 and has still not genuinely contended in a major since winning the 2023 Masters. Bryson DeChambeau contrived to miss the cut. Sergio Garcia was so frustrated, he smashed his driver on a tee box. Charl Schwartzel finished last of the weekend performers. Carlos Ortiz carded 80-75. And Joaquin Niemann didn’t even earn an invitation to play!

Critics of LIV had a field day, but it might yet be premature.

Rahm hasn’t turned into a bad golfer overnight, and DeChambeau will be a live threat at the PGA Championship.

Moreover, between now and the year’s second major, we can expect LIV golfers to round the wagons and ready themselves to come out fighting at Aronimink.

The recovery process will start in Mexico this week, and the host course Chapultepec is a fine location to recuperate - traditional in style and shorter than it seems due to high altitude.

Many LIV golfers have a fine record ever since it hosted the World Golf Championship - expect them to thrive again

Club de Golf Chapultepec Notes

  • It is a par 71 that plays to 7,267 yards

  • Because Mexico City is at altitude the course plays a lot shorter

  • It’s a traditional design, originally built in 1928 and redesigned in 1971

  • It is tightly tree-lined and has many doglegs

  • The greens are small and have Poa Annua grass on them

Contenders to Win LIV Golf Mexico

Jon Rahm (+400) at BetMGM Sportsbook

The Spaniard finished third twice at Chapultepec in the Mexico Championship, and he was fourth at LIV Mexico last year. Remember, too, that before his Masters failure, he was simply superb on LIV. His last nine starts there have earned him one win, six runner-up finishes and nothing worse than T5. He is also a multiple winner on Poa Annua grass greens.

Bryson DeChambeau (+550) at BetMGM Sportsbook

The American finished T56 on his course debut back in 2019, but followed that up with second in the 2020 Mexico Championship and second again 12 months ago in LIV Mexico. He will be desperate to get back on the horse after his Masters Friday exit and was actually playing well in the second round until carding a triple bogey-7 at the 18th hole to seal his fate.

Tyrrell Hatton (+1000) at BetMGM Sportsbook

The Englishman has been a rock-solid proposition at Chapultepec with five top 20 finishes from his five starts there. The highlights were third in the 2018 Mexico Championship and fifth in last year’s LIV Mexico. It might be a big ask for him to maintain his form following that third in the Masters. Many a high finisher at Augusta suffers a comedown a week afterwards.

DeChambeau Can Fight Back

We’ll keep this simple.

DeChambeau will be sore about his experience last week, and he’ll want to turn things around ASAP.

His first round 76 at Augusta was unquestionably bad, and so was the triple bogey-7 he ended with.

But he fought hard before then and was 1-under the card at the time. So he’s not entirely lost the form that saw him win LIV Singapore and LIV South Africa back-to-back.

He’s a three-time winner on Poa Annua greens, he won in South Africa at altitude, and is a two-time runner-up on the course.

Driven by the desire to be right for the next major he can win this week.

Back him at +550 with BetMGM.

Herbert To Fly High

The Aussie was tripped up by Chapultepec on his first try in 2020, finishing T58, but he was coming off the biggest win of his life so still coming to terms with a change in prospects.

Last year, he finished second, and that is a truer representation of his suitability for the test.

He likes a short, traditional, tree-lined layout, as evidenced by a record of T15-T4-T8 at Hong Kong and T8 at Crans in Switzerland.

The latter was also at altitude on Poa Annua, and his latest good effort at Hong Kong was earlier this year.

He’s an excellent top 10 prospect at +180 with Caesars Sportsbook (a price that includes ties).

Dustin Johnson Can Crack the Top 10

Another one to keep simple.

With two wins and two T7s from five starts, the American has proved he likes the course.

He’s also just very, very good on pure Poa Annua greens.

In fact, he’s made 53 starts and landed 28 top 10s (including seven wins).

He could make a good each-way option, but we’ll take the top 10 (including ties) at +190 with Caesars Sportsbook.
