Euro 2024 is fast approaching, with the tournament set to get under way on June 14. Germany will host the 17th edition of a competition which began in 1960.

The 24 national teams that qualified for the event were divided into six groups. The top two in each section will advance, as will the four third-place finishers with the best record.

Euro 2024: Group A

Euro 2024 Group AOdds To Qualify

Germany started with a bang on opening night, thrashing Scotland 5-1 in Munich. The Nationalelf are huge favorites to qualify for the knockout phase, which they will do with a victory over Hungary in their next match.

Switzerland would also qualify for the round of 16 if they beat Scotland on Wednesday. The Swiss looked impressive last time out, beating Hungary 3-1 without too much difficulty. They are now in pole position to finish in the top two alongside the hosts.

My Prediction for Euro 2024 Group A

  1. Germany

  2. Switzerland

  3. Hungary

  4. Scotland

Euro 2024: Group B

Spain vs Italy is one of the standout fixtures of the group stage, with their meeting scheduled for Thursday. If there is a victor in that match, they will qualify for the knockouts. That is because both sides already have three points to their name.

Croatia are still more likely than Albania to reach the knockout phase, even though they are behind them in the table at present. Luka Modric and co. could even make it as one of the best third-place finishers.

My Prediction for Euro 2024 Group B

  1. Spain

  2. Italy

  3. Croatia

  4. Albania

Euro 2024: Group C

England were unconvincing in their 1-0 defeat of Serbia on matchday one, but they ultimately got the job done and are now on course to reach the knockout phase. The fight to join them there in Group C is difficult to predict.

The odds suggest Serbia have a slight edge, chiefly because Denmark could only draw with Slovenia. But it is hard to rule out any of the four teams. Even Slovenia, thought to be the weakest of the quartet, looked decent on matchday one.

My Prediction for Euro 2024 Group C

  1.  England

  2. Denmark

  3. Serbia

  4. Slovenia

Euro 2024: Group D

Euro 2024 Group DOdds To Qualify

France will be without Kylian Mbappe for the remainder of the group stage after the superstar forward suffered a broken nose against Austria. Nevertheless, les Bleus are in the best position to finish at the top of Group D this summer.

The Netherlands should join them in the top two, but much will depend on their clash with Austria in the final round of games. Poland will struggle to advance despite impressing in spells against the Dutch.

My Prediction for Euro 2024 Group D

  1. France

  2. Netherlands

  3. Austria

  4. Poland

Euro 2024: Group E

Euro 2024 Group EOdds To Qualify

Group E was turned upside down on matchday one, as the underdogs Romania and Slovakia beat Ukraine and Belgium respectively. Even though they lost last time out, the Belgians should recover to make it through. It would not be a shock if they topped the group.

Romania and Slovakia will be vying for a top-two finish as well. We reckon the former have the edge given their energetic display against Ukraine, who will struggle to recover from that 3-0 loss.

My Prediction for Euro 2024 Group E

  1. Belgium

  2. Romania

  3. Slovakia

  4. Ukraine

Czech Republic-225

Portugal left it late to beat Czech Republic in their first game, but that victory means they are within touching distance of the round of 16 already. Whether it is the Czechs or Turkey that joins them could be determined by their head-to-head clash on matchday three.

Georgia, the only debutants at this edition, exceeded expectations against Turkey, yet they still lost 3-1. It would be a major shock if they came back from here to qualify for the knockout phase of Euro 2024.

My Prediction for Euro 2024 Group F

  1. Portugal

  2. Turkey

  3. Czech Republic

  4. Georgia

How Will Euro 2024 Work?

The action in Germany gets under way on June 14 when the hosts take on Scotland in Munich. Each team will play against every other side in their group, with the top two going through. As mentioned above, the remaining four places in the knockout phase will be filled by the third-place finishers with the best record.

Then comes the round of 16. From this point on, there are no second chances. The winner after 90 minutes will go through, unless extra time and penalties are required. The tournament will continue like this until the final, which will be staged at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on July 14.

Who Won Euro 2020?

Italy were the champions at Euro 2020, which was held in 2021 after being delayed for a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They finished top of their group thanks to victories over Turkey, Switzerland and Wales.

That sent Roberto Mancini’s men through to the round of 16, where they needed extra time to get past Austria. Italy edged out Belgium 2-1 in the quarter-finals, before eliminating Spain on penalties in the last four.

That set up a final against England at Wembley Stadium. The Three Lions took the lead within seconds of kick-off, before Leanardo Bonucci equalised midway through the second half. There were no more goals in the rest of the match, with Italy going on to win on penalties to claim the trophy.

Which Cities Are Hosting Euro 2024?

Germany was selected as the host of Euro 2024 six years ago, as they won 12 votes to Turkey’s four among members of the UEFA Executive Committee.

The tournament will take place in 10 stadiums across the country: the Olympiastadion in Berlin, the Allianz Arena in Munich, Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, the MHPArena in Stuttgart, Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig, RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne, the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Dusseldorf, and Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.

What Is the History of the European Championship?

The Copa America, South America’s flagship international competition, got under way in 1916. The first Asian Cup was held in 1956, a year before the Africa Cup of Nations began. Given the rich history of European soccer, it may surprise some to learn that their continental tournament did not start until 1960.

Henri Delaunay, an influential administrator from France after whom the European Championship trophy is named, first suggested a pan-European event in 1927, but it was only after he died that the competition kicked off. Only 17 nations entered the inaugural edition, with four qualifying for the finals. The Soviet Union were the first champions.

Twenty-nine teams tried their luck four years later, but again the finals were limited to just four teams. This remained the case right through until 1980, when eight sides came together in Italy to fight for the prize (West Germany ultimately claimed it, beating Belgium in the final).

In 1996 the tournament doubled its number of participants again, before UEFA sanctioned an expansion from 16 teams to 24 in time for Euro 2016. Due to the slightly awkward current format where one win is sometimes enough to advance to the knockout stage as a third-place finisher, there has been talk of increasing the event to 32 sides. No decision on that has yet been made.

Euro 2028 will take place in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. Turkey had previously withdrawn its bid to focus on landing the rights with Euro 2032 together with Italy, while Russia’s petition to stage the event was rejected by UEFA due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
