The timing of Chivas de Guadalajara’s latest major decision is a bit strange.
Days before their massive rivalry match against Club America, Chivas dropped manager Victor Manuel Vucetich.
With less than a week to prepare, interim Marcelo Michel Leaño will have to create a blueprint for not only Chivas’ biggest game, but also the most high-profile Liga MX battle of the regular season.
This is going to be too much for a team and roster that already have plenty of problems in 2021.
In the upcoming Clasico Nacional, pick America for the win.

Although there’s something to be said about rivalry matches existing in bubbles that pay no attention to league form or momentum, this edition of the Clasico Nacional might not apply.
While America recently suffered just their first loss of the 2021 Apertura, Chivas will be looking to reorganize themselves after dropping Vucetich.
Chivas are a team in flux, and in this weird purgatory period without a true leader on the sideline, they’ll be incredibly vulnerable in their most significant game of the regular season.
It was a bizarre decision for Chivas to do this right before the Clasico Nacional, and when taking a step back to look at it all, it speaks volumes about the doubts surrounding the organization.
As for America, it wasn’t as if their latest defeat was an embarrassing one either.
No matter the fact that they lost 3-1 to Toluca and earned a red card as well, America will more than likely be fine for the rest of the Apertura.
Through the first 9 weeks of the season, no Liga MX side have claimed more points than the Mexico City giants.
They’ve thrived under manager Santiago Solari, and in their latest loss to Toluca, they had to make an away trip and take on the 2nd-best team in Mexico’s top flight.
There’s no shame in America dropping points against a team like Toluca, and going forward, it would be unexpected for them to have similar problems against most other Liga MX opponents.
Especially against a Chivas roster that have been abysmal with their scoring.
Eight goals in nine games aren’t exactly the ambitions that Chivas fans have for their team.
Chivas have been lackluster in the final third, and although they’ve been able to create plenty of clear chances, they often struggle with capitalizing on them.
It has been the same story for weeks and nothing has truly changed.
Now, with an interim at the helm, it would be a serious shock if their problems were to suddenly be repaired.
It’s time for striker Henry Martin to earn more praise.
After scoring a game-winner for Mexico in the latest round of World Cup qualifying, the striker returned to America and quickly found the back of the net twice in his last two appearances.
Last Wednesday in their 2-0 victory over Philadelphia in the Concacaf Champions League, Martin scored the second for America that helped secure the result in their favor.
Three days later, he then scored the lone goal in the loss to Toluca.
The 28-year-old is gaining confidence at the right moment and should be in the running for another crucial goal for America this weekend against Chivas.
