Little by little, it’s looking like it’s going to be an incredible 2021 Apertura tournament for Monterrey.
Led by Javier Aguirre, Monterrey are now in the running for a potential top spot in the league table after claiming three consecutive Liga MX victories.
It has taken some time, but the Aguirre revolution is underway.
As for FC Juarez, just when it seemed like new manager Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti had figured his side out, they then stumbled once again earlier this week.
Keeping in mind that Ferretti still has room for improvements, this looks set to be a big result for the away team.

It’s not only the fact that Monterrey clinched three victories in a row, but it was also the manner and the opponents they earned those results against.
First defeating crosstown rivals Tigres 2-0, getting an impressive 2-0 result against dark horses Toluca, and then last Sunday, clinching a 2-1 away win over Santos Laguna.
For most other teams in the league, it would be commendable to earn five points in those matches.
Instead for Monterrey and Aguirre, they were able to emerge with nine as they continued their climb up the league table.
So what has helped? We’ll discuss Aguirre soon enough, but first, credit needs to be given to some of his most prominent figures.
In 2021, the argument could be made that the most influential and important players for Monterrey have been Arturo Gonzalez and Maxi Meza.
During the last few weeks, they’ve been game-changers as well.
With two goals and an assist in his last three games, Gonzalez has been superb in the final third for Monterrey.
Alongside him in a more attack-minded role, Meza has been just as decisive with his three assists in his last three appearances.
And although Gonzalez left the Santos match with an injury, at the time of writing, there are no indications that he will miss out on the upcoming game vs Juarez.
With a trademark grimace on his face, Ferretti was left scowling on the sideline for Juarez earlier this week in their 3-1 loss to Mazatlan.
It was a disappointing performance for the club that initially appeared to be turning a corner in September. Narrow but vital wins were clinched after a poor run of form.
And yet, once again, Juarez now finds themselves with a lackluster loss.
The defeat was not only a reminder of the consistency that Ferretti needs to instill in his team, but also of the defensive issues that unfortunately held them back throughout the 90 minutes.
On the other end of the sideline, Aguirre has taken another step forward with Monterrey.
Once criticized for playing far too conservatively, the Mexican manager has now earned praise for his approach that has solidified his backline.
Going forward, his players now seem to have more confidence as well.
With their defense secured, Monterrey have gradually started to collect more goals through their efficiency on net.
