Pumas UNAM vs Tigres UANL Prediction

Pumas UNAM have not beaten Tigres UANL in the last seven matches and that streak is likely to be extended this week. They have not made a good start to the season and are on a losing streak, while their opponents have picked up form.

Tigen UNAL won 2-1 when they faced off with Pumas UNAM earlier this season. The meeting in Clausura saw Jero Rodríguez hand Pumas the lead in the 31st minute and they did well to hold on to it for over 45 minutes.

However, two late goals from Tigres saw the tables turn and the away side managed to get the three points. Nico López equalized in the 78th minute and André-Pierre Gignac sealed the win with a penalty in the 97th minute of the match.

The last time Pumas defeated Tigres was back in the 2018 edition of Apertura. The win came in the knockout stage after they had lost the first match 2-1.

Carlos Gonzalez opened the scoring in the game for Pumas, but their lead lasted just three minutes. Rafael Carioca leveled things up quickly for the away side, but Felipe Mora managed to restore the lead four minutes later. After three goals in less than 8 minutes, things cooled down, and the winner came in the 92nd minute. Matías Alustiza scored the final goal of the match to seal a 4-3 win on aggregate and take them into the semi-final.

The last game between these two sides in the Apertura was a goalless draw. The match was dominated by Tigres, who had 64% of the ball but could only manage three of their 17 shots to be on target. They failed to create a single big chance in the game, while Pumas had four, but failed to convert any of them.

Pumas UNAM On A Losing Streak And The Run Might Extend

Pumas UNAM had a decent start to the season, but things have taken for the worse in the last few weeks. They had two draws in their first two games before they started playing in the pre-season friendlies of European sides.

They had to come from behind to get the draw against Club Tijuana. Lucas Rodríguez handed the away side the early lead via a penalty in the 12th minute.

Diogo came on as a substitute at halftime and was quick to make an impact. He scored the equalizer in the 52nd minute, and that helped the home side get a draw from the game.

Pumas were up against Club Leon next, and they took a stunning 3-0 lead in the game. Juan Dinenno, Gustavo del Prete and Gustavo del Prete scored for the away side, while Osvaldo Rodríguez sent off in the first half for Leon. However, Pumas blew the lead and ended up sharing points after a brace from Lucas Di Yorio, and a goal from Joel Campbell helped the home side get level.

Pumas did not let the draw get to their heads and managed to bounce back well. Adrián Aldrete scored the lone goal of the match against Club Necaxa, and that saw them grab their first win of the season.

They could not carry the momentum into the next games and ended up drawing three matches in a row. Pachuca, Mazatlan, and Monterrey forced them to share points, and that derailed all the momentum they had. Things got worse for the players as they had to travel to Spain to face Barcelona in a friendly – which they ended up losing 6-0!

The Catalan side were ruthless in the match and did not give the Mexican side any chance of making a comeback. The home side had 64% of the ball, 22 shots on goal, of which 12 were on target, and forced the Liga MX side to make 7 saves in the game.

Pumas returned to league action a week later against Club America and were thrashed 3-0. The loss was followed by another to Atletico de San Luis and Santos Laguna added salt to the wounds with a stunning 5-1 win at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario!

Tigres UANL On A Good Run Despite Hiccup Against Pachuca

Tigres UANL made the worst possible start to the season by losing at home. They were up against Cruz Azul and were beaten 3-2 despite making a comeback in the game twice.

Florian Thauvin and Sebastián Córdova got on the scoresheet to equalize twice for the home side in the game – both goals coming in the second half. However, Santiago Giménez scored the winner from the spot in the 93rd minute to seal the win for the away side.

The loss was a good wakeup for the side, and they took things seriously from the next game. Tigres UNAL went on a 5-match winning streak after the opening day loss and were showing that they were the side to beat once again this season.

André-Pierre Gignac scored the lone goal of the match to start the winning streak by beating Mazatlan. Raymundo Fulgencio was the hero the next game as Tigres managed another 1-0 win, this time against Club Tijuana.

Wins against Atlas, Juarez and Queretaro followed, but Tigres had to fight hard as they were shown red cards in the last two matches.

Just when things were looking too good for Tigres UNAL, Pachuca handed them a loss. Nicolás Ibáñez scored once in each half to help the home side win 2-0 after Jesús Angulo was sent off for Tigres in the first half. They played over 80 minutes of the match with just 10 men but still managed to get 9 shots and keep 42% of the ball.

Tigres were shown a red card for the fourth game running when Rafael Carioca was given the marching orders in the 61st minute. Luckily, Sebastián Córdova and Luis Quiñones had gone on the scoresheet for them in the game and they managed to hold on to the 2-0 lead to beat Santos Laguna.

The 4-match red card streak finally came to an end when they faced Monterrey. They did not get any player sent off, but more importantly, they could not get the win. They were held to a goalless draw, in an evenly fought game that saw the home side keep 47% of the ball and take 13 shots, while Tigres had 53% of the ball and 11 shots.
