After fading the Cleveland Guardians on Monday, we go back to the well tonight as their underwhelming lineup faces off against the St. Louis Cardinals Michael McGreevy who excels at avoiding contact. Later in the night, we turn our attention towards the Texas Rangers and Athletics with two rocket arms projected to get the start, battling it out against two lineups who have struggled with getting into scoring position.

Even though the Cleveland Guardians have been able to leap up to the top of the AL Central division standings, negative regression looms large as they continue to severely underwhelm on offense. Heading into Tuesday night, the Guardians rank in the bottom half of the board in Contact Rate, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, On Base Percentage, and in OPS.
Unfortunately for the Guardians, their struggles on offense are poised to persist against the St. Louis Cardinals as they face off against Michael McGreevy who is currently averaging an ERA of 2.16, a FIP of 3.09, and a league leading WHIP of 0.780. Even with McGreevy generating Whiffs at a low rate, he still excels at putting opposing batters into low quality contact scenarios, averaging less than one Hit Against per Inning Pitched.
On the other side of the field, Joey Cantillo is expected to get the start after being replaced at the last second on Monday. Cantillo has been able to thrive in his first three starts of the year, averaging an ERA of 2.45 and a FIP of 1.85. With the Cardinals lineup ranking equally as poor in Hit Rate, expect Cantillo to continue to avoid contact while attacking the strike zone and hold them off the scoreboard in the first inning.

In his first year with the Texas Rangers, MacKenzie Gore has been able to get off to a hot start in his new setting, averaging an ERA of 2.76, a WHIP of 0.857, and a FIP of 2.78 in three appearances. Gore’s success on the mound stems from his aggression and elite command of the ball, averaging less than one Hit and more than one Strikeout per Inning Pitched.
In a AL West divisional matchup against the Athletics, Gore will have a great opportunity to build on his momentum as he faces off against a lineup who ranks below league average in Contact Rate and in Strikeout Rate. Especially with his back end drastically reducing the width of the Athletics gaps in the outfield with their coverage, surrounding Gore with a group who ranks fifth in Fielding Percentage.
Facing off against Gore is Jeffrey Springs, a veteran in the A’s rotation who excels at avoiding contact, averaging a WHIP of 0.764 and less than 0.5 Hit Against per Inning. With the Rangers ranking near dead last in RBIs and in On Base Percentage, expect Springs to continue to hold them out of scoring position, increasing his chances of keeping a clean sheet in the first inning.

Kansas City Royals vs. Detroit Tigers - Cole Ragans vs. Framber Valdez - Positive regression looms large over the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers, facing off against a pair of arms who are currently averaging more than one Hit Against per Inning Pitched and an ERA higher than 4.50.
