Braves vs. Red Sox - Chris Sale vs. Payton Tolle (4:10 PM EST)

The Boston Red Sox offense has shown signs of life over the last two games, but this lineup has struggled to produce consistently throughout the season. 

Boston ranks near the bottom of MLB in several offensive categories, and this is a difficult matchup against an Atlanta Braves team that can dominate on the mound.

Chris Sale will face his former team on Thursday afternoon, and this is a spot where the veteran left-hander should have success. Sale has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, consistently shutting down opposing lineups with elite command and swing-and-miss stuff. 

Boston’s hitters are familiar with Sale, but that doesn’t necessarily make the matchup easier considering how dominant he has looked in 2026.

Sale enters this game with a 7-3 record, a 1.89 ERA, and a 0.87 WHIP. He has recorded 72 strikeouts across 62 innings while allowing just 40 hits. His ability to limit hard contact and avoid walks makes him an ideal NRFI pitcher because opposing teams rarely generate early momentum against him.

The Red Sox will counter with rookie Payton Tolle, who has quietly put together an outstanding season. Tolle is 2-2 with a 2.45 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP. He has been overpowering on the mound, averaging well over one strikeout per inning while also limiting free passes. His combination of velocity and control has made him difficult for opposing lineups to figure out.

Cubs vs. Pirates - Colin Rea vs. Paul Skenes (6:40 PM EST)

The Chicago Cubs once had a commanding lead in the National League Central, but that advantage has quickly disappeared during a rough stretch of baseball, causing a massive shift in the latest NL Central odds.

The Cubs are in a difficult spot offensively because Skenes has already established himself as one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball.

Astros vs. Rangers - Spencer Arrighetti vs. Nathan Eovaldi (8:05 PM EST)

The Houston Astros have been one of the more disappointing teams in baseball this season. For years, the Astros were viewed as the gold standard in the American League, but the team has failed to live up to expectations in 2026. Despite those struggles, the AL West remains weak enough that Houston is still firmly in the playoff conversation, meaning they shouldn't be counted out when looking at the latest AL West odds.

While he occasionally issues walks, Arrighetti does an excellent job avoiding damaging contact. He has surrendered only one home run all season.

Nathan Eovaldi will take the mound for Texas. The veteran right-hander is 5-5 with a 3.65 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP this season. Eovaldi still possesses strong strikeout ability and plenty of experience in high-pressure situations. He has also pitched well at home throughout his career, which adds confidence to this play.
