Best NRFI Bets Today: Expect Schlittler to Get Off to a Hot Start

Against the St. Louis Cardinals, the betting favorite for the AL Cy Young award has a great opportunity to get off to a hot start by attacking a lineup who severely underwhelms on offense. Later in the night, positive regression looms large over Brandon Pfaadt as he faces off against the San Diego Padres who struggle with making contact. For those looking beyond daily matchups, monitoring the shifting AL Central odds could uncover some strong value in the futures market.

Best NRFI Bets Today 2026 08 03 Yankees Cam Schlittler

St. Louis Cardinals vs. New York Yankees - Michael McGreevy vs. Cam Schlittler (7:05 PM, EST)

Expect no Runs to be scored in the first inning with two productive arms battling it out against a pair of lineups who get on base at a low rate.

Under 0.5 Run (-115) at BetMGM Sportsbook

Since the start of the regular season, the New York Yankees Cam Schlittler has been dominant on the mound, leading the AL in ERA and in WHIP while averaging a FIP of 2.53. The young Yankees pitcher’s success stems from his aggression, generating more than one Strikeout per Inning Pitched.

Heading into Monday night’s contest against the St. Louis Cardinals, Schlittler will be able to strengthen his claim for the AL Cy Young award by ambushing an offense who ranks near dead last in Hit Rate, RBIs, Runs Scored, and in On Base Percentage. Especially with his back end excelling in coverage, fielding a group who resides in the top-10 in Defensive Efficiency.

Like the Cardinals, the Yankees have also underwhelmed in their efforts of getting on base by making contact, crashing down to the bottom half of the board in Hit Rate and in On Base Percentage. With Michael McGreevy averaging a WHIP of 1.198 while giving up less than one Hit Against per inning, the Cardinals pitcher will be able to create Whiffs at a higher rate and keep a clean sheet in the first inning.

San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks - Michael King vs. Brandon Pfaadt (9:40 PM, EST)

The San Diego Padres inability to make contact bodes well for Brandon Pfaadt who has struggled to find his footing this season.

Under 0.5 Run (-110) at BetMGM Sportsbook

After re-tooling their lineup, the San Diego Padres have been abysmal on offense, ranking below league average in Hit Rate and in OPS. Their lack of production on offense brings in a high amount of negative variance into their contests, making it difficult for them to pull away on the scoreboard which drastically lowers their chances of winning on a nightly basis.

In a NL West divisional contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Padres struggles with making contact will be on full display as they face off against Brandon Pfaadt who concedes less than one Hit Against per inning. The Diamondbacks back end will also narrow the width of the Padres gaps in the outfield, surrounding Pfaadt with a defense who ranks third overall in Fielding Percentage. Consequently, this defensive edge could significantly impact the NL West odds for this matchup.

On the other side of the field, Michael King is projected to get the start for the Padres, a productive arm in their rotation who is averaging an ERA of 3.38 and a WHIP of 1.173. With the Diamondbacks grading out equally as poor in the same previously mentioned offensive metrics, King will be able to take advantage of their low Contact Rate and neutralize their bats at the plate.
