Even with Fernando Tatis Jr out with an injury, the San Diego Padres offense is still lethal and more than capable of generating early inning production against the Braves underwhelming Spencer Schwellenbach. While that takes place, the Toronto Blue Jays offense find themselves in a position to round back into form against the Diamondbacks Ryne Nelson who has mightily struggled in his 2024 campaign.

With both the Braves and Padres comfortably behind the Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers in their respective division standings, their best hopes of making the playoffs is by grabbing a wildcard spot. Both units currently hold the first two highly coveted spots, yet there is still plenty of season left to be played with multiple teams not too far behind them.
Should the Padres want to pave their way to a playoff berth, then their offense will need to continue to play at a high level. Even without star slugger Fernando Tatis Jr in their lineup, the Padres boast more than enough depth to help mask his loss of production. This is in large part the acquisition of league leading Hits contender Luis Arraez in a trade with the Miami Marlins, giving them a sure fire source of production as their lead off man and a potential runner in scoring position early in the contest.
Arraez, as well as the rest of the Padres elite top of their order, are now in a position to continue their high rate of play as they are set to face off against the Braves Spencer Schwellenbach. Schwellenbach has continued to struggle in his minimal appearances so far this season as he takes the mound with an ERA of 5.02, a WHIP of 1.274, 39 Total Hits Against, and 21 Earned Runs Allowed in 7 total games played.
As for the Braves, their offense has continued to underwhelm this season as they currently rank below league average in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage. Luckily for Atlanta, they have an opportunity to round back into form against the Padres Randy Vasquez who has been a routine fade target for our daily YRFI series. Vasquez enters the contest with an ERA of 4.66, a WHIP of 1.603 and a FIP of 5.16.

After making the World Series in 2023, the Diamondbacks are currently out of this year's playoff picture as they are comfortably behind the Dodgers in the NL West division standings as well as a few games back from a wildcard spot. Their defense has been the main culprit for their struggles as they currently rank well below league average in Team Total Pitching ERA and Defensive Efficiency.
While their defense continues to struggle, their offense has managed to keep them in competitive form as they rank above league average in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage. Every bit of their offensive production will be on display against the Blue Jays Yariel Rodriguez as he has struggled with keeping opposing runners out of scoring position as his WHIP of 1.330 indicates.
As for the Blue Jays, offensive production has been a struggle as they rank on the bottom half of the board in the same previously mentioned offensive metrics. Fortunately for them, they are presented with an opportunity to succeed against the Diamondbacks Ryne Nelson as he struggles to avoid opposing contact. Nelson takes the mound with an ERA of 5.08, WHIP of 1.481, and 98 Hits Allowed in 16 games played.
