LA Galaxy vs Seattle Sounders Predictions and Picks

With both MLS teams sitting in the top three spots of the Western Conference standings, there’s a feeling of an early playoff preview when the LA Galaxy host the Seattle Sounders this weekend.

Looking at the Galaxy, they’ve been entertaining with their high-scoring results that have gifted them five wins and two losses so far this season.

As for the Sounders, there’s a bit more of a fine-tuned approach with their dominant style that has helped them maintain an undefeated streak and only three goals allowed in eight matches.

Although the Galaxy have yet to earn a loss or draw at home — and will be allowing full capacity for the first time this season — the Sounders will prove to be a substantial threat.

Despite a couple of draws before the recent international break, the Sounders have shown very few weaknesses, if any.

At time of writing before the weekend, where do both teams stand?

Seattle, as mentioned earlier, have been on an incredible run of form.

Easily surpassing a number preseason predictions that had them more as a club in transition, the Sounders have hit the ground running thanks to a unified effort from countless players within the roster.

Regardless of injury concerns and the exits of key figures, countless backups and supporting players have helped carry the squad to their undefeated start.

But what about the Galaxy? They haven’t done too bad either.

Like the Sounders, they are another powerhouse within the league that appear to have shaken off much of the expected rust that was supposed to hold them back in 2021.

Led by star striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez in the attack, the Galaxy are now competitive week in and week out against every opponent.

And yet, regardless of what Hernandez does in the frontline, will that be enough to compensate for some expected defensive issues that the Sounders could showcase?

The Galaxy Don’t Have A Reliable Backline

When the Galaxy clinch points, they don’t do so because of their defense, they do so in spite of it.

In fact, they are lucky that they’ve only allowed a total of 11 goals in seven games.

According to Wyscout, the Galaxy currently have the fifth-highest xGA (expected goals against) rating in the league, with a tally of 14.15.

If trends continue, the odds are likely that the pendulum will eventually swing back in the opposition’s favor against a Galaxy backline that have been involved in high-scoring shootouts.

And the good news for the Sounders — which is obviously terrible news for the Galaxy — is that they have plenty of options who could help find the back of the net.

Seattle’s Goalscoring Responsibility Has Been Shared Throughout The Roster

Seattle have had six different goalscorers in the early stages of the season, and of those six, three have at least found the back of the net twice so far.

Granted, the argument could be made that some of these defenders or midfielders won’t be consistently scoring, but nonetheless, it’s emblematic of the shared work within the squad.

And most importantly, if a striker like Will Bruin can finally get his first goal of the season, then Seattle’s attacking numbers could be increased even further in the near future.

Especially if the Galaxy are missing a vital member of their roster this weekend.

Will Jonathan dos Santos Be Ready For The Galaxy?

Midfielder and Designated Player Jonathan dos Santos remains up in the air for the Galaxy’s upcoming match.

According to reports, the 31-year-old has been listed as questionable against the Sounders.

This could be a make-or-break situation for the Galaxy.

As not only a defensive stalwart in the middle of the pitch, but also a vital distributor, many media and fans believe that Dos Santos is the most significant player within the Galaxy’s roster.

And if he isn’t available, that could mean even more issues for the team’s backline.
