Boston Celtics vs Brooklyn Nets Predictions and Picks

Our Pick
The Boston Celtics have fought hard, but it will likely come to an end in Brooklyn. The Nets’ offense is too fast-paced and too diverse for the shorthanded Celtics to handle.

BOS: Who Else Is There?

Boston are struggling to find contributors, on top of their mounting injury issues. With Kemba Walker’s status in the air, Boston need more than a couple players to step up and support Tatum.

The Celtics were powered by Jayson Tatum in their Game 4 performance, but not many showed up to back him up. Other than Tatum, the Celtics starting lineup combined to shoot 13 of 37 from the field.

Tatum doesn’t have his running mates Walker or Brown available, and it seems long past the time where we can expect the less than stellar Celtics supporting cast to make up the difference.

Celtics Key Player: (F) Jayson Tatum

With their backs against the wall and without home court advantage, the Celtics are desperate. All eyes are on scoring phenom Jayson Tatum.

Tatum has the tools and skillset to compete with the best of them. In Game 4 he scored 40 points and collected seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and one steal in 40 minutes of play.

Depleted and without much capable depth, the Celtics are relying on Tatum to carry them to the finish line. He might be able to do that for one game, so long as he’s not the only major contributor.

Nets: Keep Moving the Ball

On top of having tremendous scoring trio, the Nets superstars are more than willing to pass the ball. Their unselfishness opens up opportunities for others and makes Brooklyn near unstoppable.

In Game 5 against the Boston Celtics the Nets made 48 of their 83 field goals, also going to the free throw line 30 times. On their 48 field goals, the Nets assisted on 29.

If Brooklyn maintains the fluidity to their offence, there’s nothing that Boston can do to stop them. When it gets clogged up and they shoot inefficiently, Brooklyn can be threatened.

Nets Key Player: (F) Kevin Durant

The Brooklyn Nets have been cautious with Kevin Durant all season and it seems to be paying off in the playoffs.

In Game 4 of the Nets’ first round series, Durant put up 42 points, five assists, four rebounds, two blocks, and converted on all three of his three-point field goals.

Durant has the opportunity to close out the Celtics in Game 5. If he’s as efficient on offence as he has been, the Nets will be breezing into the second round.
