The LA Clippers are coming off of an overtime win against the Detroit Pistons, and they'll also welcome Kawhi Leonard back into the lineup against the Toronto Raptors. Toronto have been well rested, not playing since last Friday while also owning a home-court advantage. It should be an exciting matchup between some familiar faces among the 2019 NBA Champion Toronto Raptors squad.
The Toronto Raptors have an aggressive defence that forces 16.9 turnovers per game (2nd in the NBA), while they commit just 12.6 turnovers of their own (1st in the NBA). Unfortunately, the Raptors' defence also allows opponents to shoot 48.9% from the field (29th in the NBA) and 35.8% from the three-point range (15th in the NBA). The LA Clippers aren't a scoring adept team, averaging just 107.8 points per game (30th in the NBA) on 46.1% field goal efficiency (22nd in the NBA). But they limit teams through their defence, allowing just 45.3% field goal efficiency (3rd in the NBA), 33.9% three-point efficiency (4th in the NBA), and 107.9 points per game (3rd in the NBA).
The LA Clippers should put up a great fight in this game, especially Kawhi Leonard and Norman Powell. However, with rest on their side and a healthier roster than they've had in weeks, the Toronto Raptors are expected to overwhelm the Clippers on both ends of the court.
The Toronto Raptors and the LA Clippers are definitely what you'd call defense-first teams in today's NBA. While they're both capable on the offensive side of the ball, neither Toronto nor LA are what you'd call potent offensively - ranking 20th and 30th in scoring offense respectively.
On the season, the Raptors own a 113.8 offensive rating (13th in the NBA) on a 97.2 pace (25th in the NBA). The Clippers have a 109.5 offensive rating (28th in the NBA) on a 98.1 rated pace (23rd in the NBA). Given the two teams combine for just 220.1 points per game on average, with a points margin of just +0.6 and +0.2 respectively, clearing 219.0 isn't optimistic.
The Clippers have cleared 219.0 in just 18 of their 35 games so far this season. On the other side, the Raptors have cleared 219.0 points in just 17 of their 33 games so far this season. This doesn't project to be a high-scoring game, and their impressive team defenses only reinforce that likelihood.
