LAC: Start Stronger

The LA Clippers are on the brink of elimination and they will be facing Phoenix on their home court. If they want to take Game 5, the Clippers have to get off to a stronger start.

Despite having home-court advantage in Game 4, the LA Clippers lost the first quarter 20 to 20. Down for the majority of the first half, the Clippers tried to rally back by winning the second half 44 to 34. It wasn’t enough and now they need to consider their situation.

The Clippers have decided to move Zubac into the starting lineup to match Ayton and he’s been confident on rim runs and running the break. If the Clippers back court can get running early, they may be able to avoid a nail-biting finish.

Clippers Key Player: (G) Paul George

The LA Clippers have no choice but to win this match. For Paul George, the result of this series won’t just define his season but possibly his career to this point.

George puts in the effort, contributing 23 points, 16 rebounds, and six assists in Game 4 against the Suns. However his shooting was poor, converting on just 5 of 20 from the field and 1 of 9 from deep. He tried to make up for is by going 12 of 18 from the free throw line.

The Clippers star has the advantage in most matchups, but Suns defenders are swarming him. There’s nothing for George if they lose Game 5, so he’ll certainly be aggressive.

PHO: Keep Grinding on Defence

The Phoenix Suns have been fantastic on the defensive end through this series. With DeAndre Ayton minding the rim, the Suns have been super aggressive on the perimeter.

In Game 4 the Phoenix Suns held their opponents to 32.5% from the field and 16.1% from three-point range. Their willingness to close out on shooters has been game changing for them.

Just one victory away from the NBA Finals, the Suns need to lay it out on the line. The Clippers will come out attacking early, but if the Suns’ defence can break the Clippers’ offensive spirit early they can reach their first NBA Finals sin 1993.

Suns Key Player: (C) DeAndre Ayton

A key player through this series against the LA Clippers, DeAndre Ayton has been the piece that the Clippers cannot handle through four games. His dominance in the paint and on the glass can lead the Suns to victory.

The Bahamian center posted 19 points, 22 rebounds, and four blocks in 41 minutes of play in Game 4 against the Clippers. His nine offensive rebounds were representative of his energy and activity on the glass.

If Phoenix can establish an early presence in the paint through Ayton, they will be well on their way to the NBA Finals. So far, no Clippers player has been able to compete with his interior presence.
