Utah Jazz Game Notes: The Utah Jazz Need to Take Care of the Ball

The Utah Jazz defeated the LA Clippers in their last meeting, but it wasn't by a big margin. If they hope to beat the Clippers in this matchup, the Jazz need to maintain their efficient and pacey offence while taking care of the ball.

Ranked tenth in the NBA terms of pace, the Utah Jazz have generated the league's third-best scoring offence (117.6 points per game) but commit the 23rd most turnovers in the NBA (15.9 per game).

In their last game against the LA Clippers, the Utah Jazz committed 20 turnovers while forcing just 13 of their own. They were able to keep LA's shooting in check, but Utah can't afford to make the same mistakes against a Clippers team on their home court.

Jazz Key Player: (F) Lauri Markkanen

Continuing to surprise this season, Lauri Markkanen will be a crucial figure for the Jazz when they take on the LA Clippers. He's been a near-unstoppable scorer for even the best defences and will need to prove that again when he faces LA.

Markkanen is averaging 22.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game on 54.4% from the field and 36.9% from the three-point range. He's averaging a clear career-high in most major statistical categories and is coming off of a 23-point, 10-rebound performance in his last game.

The Jazz will need to get Markkanen more involved against the Clippers in this game, as he was held rather quiet by his standards the last time they played each other. If Utah can continue to push the pace and find good opportunities for Markkanen, they have a great chance at overcoming LA's tough defence.

LA Clippers Game Notes: Find Better Looks From Three-Point Range

The LA Clippers enter this game with eyes on making up for their recent loss to the Utah Jazz this season. While their defence was in full force, their struggles from three-point range foreshadowed their eventual loss.

Owning the league's worst scoring offence (105.2 points per game), the LA Clippers at least maintain a level of efficiency despite their poor pace. They are eighth in field goal percentage (47.6% per game) and 15th in three-point field goal percentage (35.9% per game).

Last time LA faced the Jazz, the Clippers shot just 24.2% from three-point range - converting on just 8 of 33 three-point attempts. Their defence is a mainstay of their playing style, but to level the season series with Utah they need to be efficient in their looks from three.

Clippers Key Player: (G-F) Norman Powell

While he got off to a poor start to open the season, veteran shooting guard Norman Powell is coming off of his best performance of the year. The Clippers will hope that he can maintain his tremendous play against the Jazz.

On the season, Powell is averaging a modest 12.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists over 17 games played. However, in his most recent game, Powell posted 26 points and 2 assists on 62.5% shooting from the field and 62.5% shooting from three.

Powell hit five three-point field goals in his last game, an efficiency that LA will hope he can maintain against the Jazz. LA don't own the league's most impressive offence so efficiency from Powell, their top bench scorer, will be crucial for their chances at victory.
