Milwaukee Bucks vs Philadelphia 76ers Predictions and Picks

The Philadelphia 76ers are still trying to bring their offence together, hopefully in time for a Championship-level playoff run. Unfortunately for the Sixers, Milwaukee are on a tear with their shooting and already high defensive standards.

How can the Bucks beat the Sixers?

The Milwaukee Bucks are coming up against a Sixers team that are looking to find their rhythm after a superstar acquisition. The Sixers are a very dangerous, individually talented team. Milwaukee’s defence must be engaged to win.

When it comes to the Sixers’ success, it is all about ball movement and creating off of their stars. In their 46 victories the Sixers shoot 48.7% from the field while assisting on 24.5 of their 41.0 field goals. On the flip-side, Philly assist on just 20.9 of their 35.9 field goals in losses.

The Milwaukee Bucks have a solid defence, but they don’t excel in any single area. If anything, the Bucks will need to closeout more aggressively, as they rank last in the NBA in three-point field goals allowed per game.

Bucks Key Player: (F) Khris Middleton

While all eyes are usually on Giannis Antetokounmpo, it is All-Star Khris Middleton who needs to step up his game for the Bucks to come out victorious. Coming off of a poor shooting night, Middleton needs to find his rhythm early for the Bucks to win.

In his last game, a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, Middleton struggled from the field. While he posted 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, Middleton was just 5 of 16 from the field and 1 of 4 from three-point range. Fortunately, Middleton was able to convert on all 5 of his free throw attempts.

The Sixers are one of the better three-point shooting teams in the NBA, so Middleton will need to mix-up his scoring in order to find success. If he can be successful on the offensive end, it makes Milwaukee’s chances of victory much greater.

How can the Sixers beat the Bucks?

The Milwaukee Bucks play a game that is rather similar to Philadelphia’s own. Playing off of the star power of Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks are able to find some excellent opportunities.

Milwaukee rank 4th overall in three-point field goals made per game (14.3), and 5th overall in three-point field goal efficiency (36.8%). Playing at a fast pace, ranking 10th in break points per game, the Bucks can find great opportunities against lazy defences.

The Sixers aren’t known for their ability to defend in transition, so they’ll need to be efficient with their scoring opportunities and put in a greater effort getting back. Ranking last in the league in opponents fast break efficiency, Philly will need to surpass their standards.

Sixers Key Player: (G) James Harden

James Harden is coming off of just his 14th official NBA match as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. He struggled against a tough defence in his last game, and he won’t get any reprieve when he faces the Bucks.

In his last game, a loss to the Phoenix Suns, Harden posted 14 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds in 39 minutes of play. While the average player would be proud of that production, it is rather pedestrian for an MVP-calibre player like Harden.

Shooting just 2 of 11 from the field and 2 of 5 from three, Harden needs to find his shot. There’s a silver lining in his fantastic assist numbers, but you’d be remiss to say any part of his game is more valuable than his scoring.
