MIL: Set the Standard Early
The Milwaukee Bucks were easily controlled by the Phoenix Suns in Game 1. While Antetokounmpo was a welcome return to the lineup, Milwaukee struggled to take advantage of his presence. A large reason was their slow start out of the gate.
The Suns outscored the Bucks 30 to 26 in the first quarter, but it was the last time the Bucks saw a lead for the remainder of the game. Milwaukee’s start wasn’t slow, but they need to take control or face the possibility of Phoenix running away with the game.
Antetokounmpo led the way for the Bucks with eight points in the first quarter, but they’ll want a more defensive focus in order to keep pace with the Suns to open Game 2.

The Milwaukee Bucks are much more than their key players Antetokounmpo and Middleton. Despite not getting the applause, Lopez is crucial to the Bucks’ success. However, his defensive struggles in Game 1 spelled Milwaukee’s early doom.
Lopez posted 17 points and six rebounds in 22 minutes of play. He converted on 50% of his field-goal attempts and hit three three-point field goals. Unfortunately, Lopez’s defensive issues made him a team-low minus-17 for the game.
The veteran big man needs to sort out his defensive issues if he wants to keep contributing for the Bucks. Helping to control Ayton on the glass would also help their chances.
PHO: Space the Floor
The Milwaukee Bucks are an athletic and tough defensive team. Switchable at most positions, the Suns found success by stretching the Milwaukee Bucks’ defense.
While the Suns only converted on 11 of 34 three-point field goal attempts, their offensive spacing and the playmaking of Chris Paul opened up the paint for them. Added on top of their running game, Phoenix shot 30 of 54 from two-point range.
The Suns are either pushing the pace or searching for advantageous matchups. Unless the Bucks adjust, Phoenix’s offense looks as if it’ll be difficult to contain.

We talked about Chris Paul being the veteran leader of the Phoenix Suns, but he showed that he shouldn’t be taken lightly in terms of his production either. Paul was fantastic in 37 minutes of playing, pressing the Suns to victory early.
In Game 1 against the Bucks, Paul posted 32 points, nine assists, and four rebounds on 12 of 19 shooting from the field. He was sharp from three-point range as well, hitting on 4 of 7 attempts.
Paul was able to manipulate the Bucks’ defence with his playmaking and wasn’t afraid to create for himself when the opportunity presented itself. If he can maintain his scoring threat, the Bucks won’t be able to stop them.
