Utah Jazz vs LA Clippers Predictions and Picks

Our Pick
The Utah Jazz, usually a stellar defensive team, struggled to contain the Clippers in Game 3. While the Clippers seem to have found their rhythm the Jazz, with home court advantage, should be able to take back control if their defence reverts back to form.

UTA: Get Off to A Stronger Start

The Utah Jazz are bound to have some issues dealing with the LA Clippers in this matchup. In order to remain competitive, they need to find their rhythm from the tip.

The Jazz weren’t awful to open Game 3, actually getting off to an 8-0 start. However after the Clippers coach called a timeout, it went downhill for the Jazz. Utah went on to shoot just 9 of 23 in the first quarter of Game 3.

Utah have the offensive ability to keep up with the Clippers, so they’ll need to make a more concentrated effort to maintain their scoring as the quarters wear on.

Jazz Key Player: (C) Rudy Gobert

The Utah Jazz pride themselves on their defence, the center of that defence being three-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert. However, in Game 3 against the Jazz, the Clippers didn’t feel Gobert’s presence as much as the Jazz needed.

In Game 3 the Clippers shot 19 of 36 from two-point range, with only 12 of those attempts coming from outside of the paint.

The Jazz still challenged the Clippers at the rim, but the Clippers either finished or found an outside shooter. In order to put the Clippers on the brink of elimination, the Jazz needs to slow down LA’s diverse attack.

LAC: Keep Rewarding the Stars

Paul George and Kawhi Leonard are doing a fantastic job for the Clippers, especially in Game 3. However, the game-changer for LA was how the supporting players stepped up to convert on shots.

Starting forward and guard Nicolas Batum and Reggie Jackson combined for 34 points, eight rebounds, and five assists on 12 of 17 shooting from the field. In fact, the bench players combined to contribute 29 points of their own.

When LA’s stars have someone to turn to on the offensive end, they can perform more freely. So long as the Clippers reserves can pull their weight, LA can level the series.

Clippers Key Player: (F) Kawhi Leonard

When the going gets tough for the LA Clippers, they turn to two-time Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard. Not only has Leonard been incredibly efficient, he’s been decisive late in games.

Leonard posted 34 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block in Game 3 against the Jazz. In fact, Leonard was excellent in the fourth quarter where he scored 12 points on 5 of 5 shooting from the field.

It’s very encouraging for the Clippers to be able to turn to Leonard when the going gets tough. He’s one of the true superstars in the league and if the match is close near the end, it’s difficult to imagine he won’t come out on the winning side.
