Patriots vs Doplhins Predictions Tua Tagovailoa

The AFC East is becoming a tough NFL division again as the young New England Patriots continue their post-Brady rebuild and the rebuilt Miami Dolphins learn to exploit their new Tua-to-Cheetah connection, this highly anticipated Week 1 battle a chance for both teams to shine.

Speaking of shining, the hot Miami sun will attempt to bake the gorgeous and mostly covered Hard Rock Stadium so the heat and cramps could be an issue for the players in this game given how early it still is in the season, the sun unblocked on the away side of the stadium..

Plenty of enticing action surrounding the NFL’s Week 1 and this game is no exception, with lots of solid wagers to choose from as well as a variety of odds, so have a look at our best predictions, odds, and picks here for the Pats vs Phins and make your wisest wagers now.

Patriots vs Dolphins Predictions

Can Patriots QB Mac Jones Continue His Connection with Jakobi Meyers?

It is easy to forget that last season Patriots QB Mac Jones was just a rookie, the 6’ 3” 217-pound former Alabama star now a Bill Belichick protégé, not a bad spot to be in given how it’s worked out for other New England QBs in the past (see Tom Brady), and already its paying off.

Jones completed 67.6 percent of his passes last year on his way to a 10-7 season as well as leading the Patriots back to the postseason which they had missed the year prior, an accomplishment made possible with the help of WR Jakobi Meyers now in his 4th NFL season.

The Jones to Meyers connection was effective last year, the two hooking up for 83 completions off 126 targets for two touchdowns – Meyers’ first scores ever in three seasons – a growing on field relationship that should continue during the 2022 season, hopefully with a few more TDs.

Can the Dolphins Tua Tagovailoa Become the Franchise QB?

NFL fans no doubt remember the chants of ‘Tank for Tua’ in 2019 when all eyes were on drafting the Hawaiian sensation by way of Alabama Tua Tagovailoa who was a National Champion and MVP with a strong arm that resulted in 87 passing TDs, plus 9 by rushing.

Now Tua has HC Mike McDaniel and OC Frank Smith overseeing his pro-development after two NFL seasons under prior HC Brian Flores where he went 13-8 and completed 66.2 percent of his passes with 449 completions for 4,467 yards and 27 TDs and 15 INTs during that time.

A big problem for Tagovailoa was staying upright against the pass rush – sacked 40 total times in his first two pro seasons – but now the Dolphins improved front line includes new LT Terron Armstead, a veteran lineman who spent his first nine NFL seasons with the New Orleans Saints.

Patriots Key Player: (RB) Damien Harris

New England will have to rely on its rushing attack as QB Mac Jones continues to develop with his receivers, and fortunately HC Bill Belichick and new Pats DC-turned-OC Matt Patricia have a talented RB room to draw from including Damien Harris, another former Alabama star.

Harris is a 25-year-old RB whose size – 5’ 11” and 213 pounds – and strength make him tough to tackle, last season having rushed the ball 202 times for 929 yards and 15 touchdowns along with 18 receptions for 132 yards, averaging 4.8 yards per touch during the 2021 season.

Joining Harris in the backfield this season is Rhamondre Stevenson, Ty Montgomery, and rookie Pierre Strong Jr., plenty of power that can relieve the starter as he rests, a group that the Patriots will depend on in the fourth quarter when defenses are tired and the tackling gets tough.

Dolphins Key Player: (WR) Tyreek Hill

This Week 1 game will be the first time that the Cheetah runs in Miami for the Dolphins, that being WR Tyreek Hill, the former KC Chiefs speedy receiver – he runs a 40-yard dash in 4.29 seconds – who now gets to prove that he was as important to his former team as he believes.

Hill is fun to watch even when he is not catching the ball because he makes the defenses scramble to cover him with double and triple teams, which leaves the other receivers with plenty of room to get open, something that guys like Jaylen Waddle and Cedrick Wilson Jr. will love.

Watch for Patriots safety Devin McCourty to help out with all the double teams that attempt to slow down the Cheetah on the run, a player who needs a strong-armed QB to target him and now Tua gets to prove that he is capable of doing the job that Patrick Mahomes used to hold.
