There’s an NFC West battle happening in California between the 3-4 San Francisco 49ers and the 3-3 Los Angeles Rams, with LA coming to this game well-rested after a Week 7 bye, and they better be because they will be facing a Niners’ offense now upgraded due to their recent acquisition – dual-threat superstar RB Christian McCaffrey who has already started blending in.
These are two top-5 defenses facing off but so far this season neither offense seems to have started clicking the way they could be, with the 13th; ranked 49ers offense led by QB Jimmy Garoppolo now with a legitimate rushing threat to counterbalance WR Deebo Samuel, that 26th; Rams offense nothing like the group that won the Super Bowl last season, at least not yet.
HC Kyle Shanahan’s San Francisco 49ers have covered the spread in eight of their last 10 games against NFC opponents and should here since the LA Rams and QB Matthew Stafford are limited to passing the football because HC Sean McVay’s 31stranked rushing attack featuring RBs Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown is only averaging 70.5 total yards on the ground per game.

Keep in mind these two divisional rivals already met up this season in Week 4 when the Forty-Niners earned a lopsided 24-9 win over the Rams, a low-scoring game that seems to be the trend this year in the NFL, so it is no surprise that seven of the LA Rams' last eight games have gone under the total points line, which is what we are taking for this Week 8 Points Total bet.
It comes down to tendencies and so far neither of these teams tends to score, with San Fran’s offense averaging 20.7 points per game and Los Angeles averaging 17.3, a total of 38 points which is well under what this bet allows, and the defenses here are similarly stingy with the 49ers allowing opponents to score 19 points per game and the Rams allowing 21, that total of 40 still under this wager.
Something else to consider is how big of an effect gaining Christian McCaffrey will have on the 49ers’ ability to get in the end zone since he now has had almost two weeks to learn HC Shanahan’s offensive game plan that utilized his ability to both run and pass last week, posting 8 carries for 38 yards and 2 receptions for 24 yards in his first attempt at blending into that offense.
The Los Angeles Rams have been cursed with multiple injuries in 2022, so far with fourteen players on the IR and five still questionable or doubtful to play even after enjoying that Week 7 bye, whereas the San Francisco 49ers have kept relatively healthy though two key players are listed as questionable for this one – WR Deebo Samuel (hamstring) and DE Arik Armstead (foot).
When it comes to this particular rivalry, the 49ers have won seven of their last eight games against the Rams, so we pick San Fran to win this game outright, and the Money Line bet on them would take $117 to win back $100 plus your wager, but Rams fans get a better deal from the oddsmakers since a $100 winning bet on LA pays out $104 plus the original investment.
The Rams are due for an upswing but with QB Matthew Stafford ranked just 13th in production among his peers with more INTs (8) than TDs (6) so far this year, the team will most likely rise when he finally does the way he did in the second half of last season, this Money Line bet a chance to but a few bucks on your favorite team to make this matchup even more exciting.
