The Carolina Hurricanes knew that their offense would have to step up to take down the highly efficient defense of the New York Rangers. What they didn't expect is the Rangers offense to be the most productive unit on the ice on Sunday night. Now that hurricane must work even harder to overcome a one-game deficit and the second round.
Carolina traded for Pittsburgh Penguins Star Ford Jake Guentzel for this type of playoff atmosphere. Guentzel has been a reliable playmaker in the regular season and postseason for the Penguins, now he must do it for the Hurricanes.
In the six postseason games played, including the previous five versus the New York Islanders, gentle has accounted for five goals with four being assists. He has come for an assist in four of the last five games played. Opposing defenses have been keying up on the potential of him to account for a huge scoring game, which opens up the availability for his teammates to score. Guentzel has taken advantage of the situation and accounts for an assist when needed.
He will need to set up more efficient shots for his teammates to score as they take on a Rangers team that is dangerous on both sides of the ice.

The first matchup of the second-round series between the Colorado Avalanche versus the Dallas Stars is set to begin tonight. There was previously a lot of hype with this matchup earlier in the season. The Avalanche are coming off a five-game series win over the Winnipeg Jets. The Dallas Stars, however, are coming off a much more exhausting and difficult performance as they had to take all seven games to feed the Vegas Golden Knights.
There's going to be some serious questions on the fatigue factor going into this game on the star side. This is an area that the Avalanche can take advantage of in game one, despite being on the road.
Among the many stars on an explosive Avalanche offense for the team to rely on, center Nathan MacKinnon is a player who has been constantly among the most productive stars on the ice. In the five playoff games played so far, McKinnon has accounted for nine total points with seven being assists. He has accounted for at least two points in four of the five games played this postseason.
McKinnon is also been a highly efficient playmaker against the Stars in the regular season. And the four games played, MacKinnon has accounted for seven total points with four being assists. There is no doubt that MacKinnon has the speed, velocity and efficiency to create high-level performances night after night. He continues to show that well into the postseason.
