The New Jersey Devils (3-1-1) are one of the hottest trending teams in the NHL this early portion of the season. The Devils have highly productive offensive players they can rely on, like center Jack Hughes.
The Devils are averaging four goals a game as a result of their offense’s production this season.
In five games this season, Hughes has accounted for 14 points, with four of them being goals and 10 being assists. There has only been one this season where Hughes was held under two points.
In the road wins over the New York Islanders and the Montreal Canadiens, Hughes has accounted for four points each. He has been an essential player on the offense this season, as he is starting to become a big star in the league at the age of 22.
Eventually, the greatest players have to show signs of deterioration. On Tuesday night, Washington Capitals left winger Alex Ovechkin was able to score his first goal of the season. Before that, he was only able to account for two assists in the first four games of the season.
He has been able to account for a point in each of the last three games for the Capitals. The team, however, is coming off a back-to-back. It is going to be a tough task for a 38-year-old Ovechkin to produce at a level that is beneficial for a fast team like the New Jersey Devils.
It is a risky bet going against one of the NHL's all-time scorers, Ovechkin, who is 71 goals away from matching Wayne Gretzky. In this game, however, don't expect too much from the superstar playing the night after a tough loss.
