The legend of Alexander Ovechkin just keeps growing. He notched the 750th goal of his career on Saturday night and next has sights set on Jaromir Jagr’s all-time mark of 766. Ovie now sits fourth in career goals scored behind Jagr, Gordie Howe and of course Wayne Gretzky. He should likely continue his trajectory on Monday night with the oft-goal surrendering Ducks in town.

Anaheim Ducks vs Washington Capitals Pick

Look for Washington to continue their surge with a 3-1 win at home that’s paying -180 on the money.

Ducks Vs Capitals December 6

The Caps enter this game as one of the top dogs in the East and the league. They now sit atop the Metropolitan one point up on the Rangers while sporting the second-best goal differential in the NHL. Then, to add to all of that, the Caps are also 8-1-4 on home ice this season. They are the team to beat in this game for many reasons.

The Ducks Are Out of Their Pond

We’ve greatly enjoyed witnessing the redemption song of the Anaheim Ducks. They’ve been among the absolute worst in the league by a landslide the last few years, but they’re now slowly paddling their way back up the standings. The young kids are maturing and their lineup is continually progressing. Case and point, the rise of young centerman Troy Terry. He’s posted 25 points in 24 games which already is a career-high and he’s not showing any signs of slowing down.

However, both Terry and the Ducks luck should stall out a bit in this one. The Caps are just too strong, too fast, and really just too undeniable. The Ducks have performed admirably against good teams so far this season with a few big wins thus far over the likes of Vegas and Calgary. They’re taking on a group that’s on another level right now though and are out of their league heading into Monday night.

Washington Loves Home Ice

The Caps have the best home record in the Metropolitan and have taken 10 of their last 14 overall. They have the fifth-best goals per game (3.52), fourth-best goals against (2.44) and sit second in most shutouts with 4. They also currently have the third highest goals for in the entire league with 88. This Caps team has been virtually unstoppable as of late taking points in eight of their last ten.

Where they may falter a little is on special teams. They only have the 16th best power play in the league which means Anaheim can stand to be a little more physical in this one to try and get some kind of advantage. Sadly, it likely won’t work the other way for the Ducks as the Caps have the second-fewest penalty minutes in the NHL.

Anaheim has only won four of their last 15 games on a Monday night. The Caps have won 30 of their last 52 as betting favorites overall.
