There’s “sure money” and there’s “easy money”. This one may fall under the latter. The difference is when you say something is “sure money” there’s always a slight chance it may not pan out. “Easy money” is like writing the cheque before the game begins and with the way the Canes have been playing, this one may be a lock from almost every angle.

Flyers Vs Hurricanes November 12

The Carolina Hurricanes have one loss to their name this season but are flawless at home thus far at a perfect 5-0-0. The Flyers, on the other hand, have won three of their last five road starts. It’s not too bad a record by any means, but the Flyers have been outscored 8-4 in their last three roadies alone. If they want to take this one against the league’s best goal differential club (+20), they’’’ have to stay relentless early and often.

The Flyers Need Defensive Production

As mentioned, Carolina boasts the best goal differential by a landslide and while Philly is 6-3-1 through their last ten, back endpoint production has been a huge weakness for the club. Between Justin Braun, Ivan Provorov, Ryan Ellis (injured last game), Travis Sanheim and Rasmus Ristolainen – their top 5 defenseman – there’s a grand total of two goals to be had. If Philly wants to change their ways and escape the middle of the Metropolitan pack, they’re going to need some help from the blueline.

For Philly to steal a win on Friday night, the biggest factor for them won’t be just their defense coming alive, it’ll be their offense staying awake. Philly has had some huge games this season, but more often than not when they do lose, it’s because of a slanted scoreboard. If they want to stay relevant through three periods, they’ll need to keep it a close minute in and minute out to even have a sniff of a chance in this one.

Carolina Needs to Keep Streaking

The Carolina Hurricanes need a very little tweaking (if any) when it comes to this matchup. They trail only Florida for the best team in the league bragging rights and they are one of only three teams remaining with perfect home records (Florida and Boston). The only thing they need to be on guard for is an upset.

If Philly comes out of the gates hot, it could be a different game story than most would predict. A few lucky bounces could make all the difference so Carolina will need to keep their league-best 1.91 goals-against average in-tact by keeping the Flyers’ forwards out wide. As for clearing the front of the net, yes, that is always a concern. However, given Philly’s lack of goal scoring from the back end, it’s probably not a problem that sits atop Cane’s list of priorities.

The Flyers have only won eight of their last 25 against teams with a winning record. Carolina has taken six of their last seven against Eastern teams.
