The Seattle Kraken began the year as the bottom dwellers that everyone predicted they would be. With the Vegas Golden Knights going to the cup final in their first year back in 2017-18, many thought the Kraken would get off to a hotter start, but the expectation was never there for the Pacific Northwesterners based on their expansion draft. However, Seattle has gone 5-4-1 in their last ten and is looking to continue their upward trend at home on Monday night.

Penguins Vs Kraken

Healthy Pens Turning the Tide

The start to the Pittsburgh Penguins 2021-22 campaign was a bit of a rough one. Injuries set in and kept their stars on the shelf for a considerable amount of time. At one point, they were without Sidney Crosby, Kris Letang, and Evgeni Malkin. Thankfully, two of those three have returned and these Pens are slowly redeeming themselves. They’re still not winning all of their games by any means, but they’re taking the gimmes when they can get them.

Case and point, their 5-1 Saturday domination of the Vancouver Canucks. Jake Guentzel’s hat trick led the Pens to an easy win and they’ll look to continue stealing W’s from the weak on Monday night in Seattle. The Kraken are starting to show a little presence right from the get go so that’s really all the Pens defense needs to weary of. If they can stand tall and keep the Kraken minimal attack to the outside, they should be sitting pretty to start the week.

The Kraken have been shedding their baby fat slowly but surely. They began the year as the laughing stock of the league – as one would expect from an expansion franchise – but have been improving steadily. As mentioned earlier, they’ve taken points in six of their last ten games and are tied for third in the Pacific for home wins with six.

To add to what’s going right for Seattle, the Pens have also been on a bit of a slide as of late. While they did take points against Vancouver, they only won one of four games on their recent Canadian road trip and still sit fourth in the Metropolitan. Much like the past decade and beyond, Pittsburgh is an offensive juggernaut when they turn it on. Their issue this season has been taking their sweet time turning it on though. If the Kraken can get on the board early and keep the pressure up, they have a good shot at sending the Pens packing.

Pittsburgh has won five of their last six against teams with a losing record. Meanwhile, Seattle has only won one of their last seven against losing record teams.
