Despite leading the series 3-2, heading home and potentially finishing off Vegas once and for all, Montreal is still not favored in this game.
We’re not sure what they have to do to be taken seriously, but clearly having a perennial Stanley Cup favorite on the ropes of elimination still won’t cut it.
Nonetheless, with that uncertainty comes opportunity and the Habs could pay off nicely come Thursday night.
Nobody believed in Montreal against Toronto, let alone when they were trailing three games to one.
Nobody believed in them against Winnipeg and they swept the Jets out of the postseason. Nobody gave them the time of day against Vegas and they’ve come back from a game down to lead the series 3-2. Now, we feel like it’s finally time we gave this team the respect they deserve.
With that said, though, we’re still not going to pick them to win.
We’re just going to respect that this one will go the distance. Once in OT, it’s anybody’s game, but at that point – it won’t be our problem.
Take the TIE.

The Vegas Golden Knights bounced Canada’s last hope in the playoffs one year ago and now the Habs could inject a little revenge for the country. Montreal has all the momentum heading home to play what could be the deciding game in front of their own fans and they’ve got a golden opportunity in front of them.
How many times have you gone to Vegas and returned home with a lighter wallet? It’s the old adage, “The house always wins.” Sort of.
The house may not win this time, but you’re still not going to get rich off of Vegas in game six.
Despite having basically everything going against them, the Golden Knights are still heavily favored in this game and are only paying out -148 on the money. You can find some better odds for the team within the props menu or the Away Team Goals category, but you’ll then have to roll the risk dice quite a bit.
Vegas is the second-highest favored team to win it all this year and it’s obvious when you look at the oddset for the gold and black.
Nobody is really giving Montreal a chance and why would they? Despite taking game five by a score of 4-1, Montreal has had nothing but trouble finding the back of the net on a regular basis in this postseason.
Vegas, on the hand, has been superb offensively, but their prowess has slowly started to die off in recent games. This team has gone from scoring at least two-plus goals a night for their past eight to drying up like the Sahara when it matters most.
They’ll need to right the ship fast or it could be curtains on Thursday night in Montreal.
The Montreal Canadiens were only scoring an average of 2.40 goals per game heading into Tuesday’s affair and that stat was very worrisome for bettors everywhere.
However, even though it’s just been one game, the Habs have begun restoring faith in their red, white, and blue brand.
It feels like this group of comeback kids is starting to get the respect they deserve as they are currently receiving 47% of all money bets. That’s not a ton of respect, but that’s the most they’ve had in a long time.
Now, let’s put all popularity scores aside and focus on how they can knock off the Golden Knights for good in game six. Montreal – the team with little to no firepower (many thought) – matched Vegas blow for blow putting up 26 shots to their 27.
It’s not a win, but it speaks volumes. If Montreal wants to take this one, they need to frustrate Vegas by opening the rink out wide and just getting a ton of rubber to the net. It doesn’t matter if they’re great shots or not.
Montreal has now learned that every shot is an opportunity and you’ll notice there have been quite a few more garbage chances as of late.
As for frustrating Vegas, aside from a few games out of the Colorado Avalanche semifinal series, nobody has really met the Golden Knights’ tenacity and skill all too often.
The Habs finally capitalized on their opportunities and got Marc-Andre Fleury moving side-to-side. They need to keep outworking this Vegas team because on paper – sorry Habs fans – Vegas is still the better side. Sometimes the ugly duck wins though and Montreal could pull off another underdog overtake in just a matter of hours.
Vegas has nine wins through their last 10 when following a loss of three or more.
Meanwhile, these Habs are 10-2 through their last 12 matchups overall with four of those wins coming on home ice.
Finally, and this could be the clincher for you, the Golden Knights only have one win in their last five games in Montreal.
