The women’s soccer tournament at the 2024 Olympics is under way, with 12 teams competing for gold over the next couple of weeks.

The USWNT are the favorites with the best online sportsbooks as they prepare to take on Brazil in the final.

The tournament began with a group stage, followed by quarter-finals, semi-finals and the gold medal match on August 10

Who Will Win Olympics Women’s Soccer 2024?

USA (+-125) at bet365

The USWNT kick-started their campaign with a 3-0 victory over Zambia that set them on their way in France. They then thrashed Germany 4-1 on matchday two of the group phase, before maintaining their 100 percent record by edging out Australia 2-1 in their final game of the first stage.

The USA have had to work harder in the knockout rounds. They needed extra time to get past Japan in the quarters, with Trinity Rodman notching the only goal of the game at the end of the first period. Something similar happened against Germany in the semis, as the USWNT struck in extra time to win 1-0.

The Stars and Stripes are the favorites to win the final as they target a fifth gold medal at the Olympics. Nothing should be taken for granted, of course, but Emma Hayes’ team are almost there.

Brazil (+175) at bet365

It is fair to say that no one had Brazil down as potential winners in the early days of this tournament. The Selecao squeezed past Nigeria in their first outing in France, but the next two results were a 2-1 defeat by Japan and a 2-0 loss to Spain. Brazil scraped through to the knockout phase as one of the third-place finishers.

Even so, Brazil dug deep to stun the host nation France in the quarters, as a late goal from Gabi Portilho brought them a memorable win. Brazil were at it again in the semis, beating the world champions and Olympics favorites Spain 4-2 in a thrilling encounter in Marseille.

Brazil are clearly the underdogs against the USWNT, but they have upset the odds against France and Brazil and therefore have a sense of momentum behind them. Writing them off would be a mistake.

Who Were the Olympics Women’s Soccer 2020 Winners?

Canada were gold medalists at the 2020 Olympics, which was delayed by 12 months due to the coronavirus pandemic. Most matches were held behind closed doors in Japan due to the ongoing spread of the virus.

Canada only finished second in their group after drawing with Japan and Great Britain, and beating Chile. They then defeated Brazil in the quarter-finals, the USWNT in the semi-finals and Sweden in the gold medal match.

This time around, before the 2024 Olympics had even got under way, the reigning champions were embroiled in controversy after it was found that Canada had attempted to spy on their upcoming opponents New Zealand with the use of a drone. Two members of the coaching staff were promptly fired by the Canadian Olympic Committee.

Brazil and Colombia qualified thanks to their showing at the 2022 Copa America Femenina, while Canada won a CONCACAF play-off to go forward to the games.

Where Is Olympics Women’s Soccer 2024 Taking Place?

The Olympics are being held in Paris this summer. The French capital previously hosted the games in 1900 and 1924, with the event returning to the iconic European city a century after it was last there.

Unlike most other events taking place over the next few weeks, the women’s soccer tournament is spread right across the country. Indeed, matches will be held in Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Saint-Etienne, Nantes and Nice in addition to Paris.
