It might be too big a spread to cover either way, so take the under here and expect Pittsburgh’s defense to make it somewhat tough for the Stallions to score.

This exciting USFL Week 7 Sunday double-header kicks off with the best team in the league – the 6-0 Birmingham Stallions – facing arguably the weakest team in the league – the 1-5 Pittsburgh Maulers – a potential trap game that could spoil the Stallions perfect season.
It was another win for the Stallions last week over the Michigan Panthers, 33-17, their 6-game win streak intact as they enter Week 7 ready to clinch the postseason with a win here, this team averaging 27 points a game while keeping opponents to just over 18 points on the scoreboard.
The Maulers were hopeful new QB Vad Lee (see below) would provide some answers for their struggling offense that averages just 12.7 points per game, but last week Lee and the rest of Pittsburgh’s roster took their fifth loss of the season falling to the New Orleans Breakers, 16-26.
Here are our best predictions, odds, and picks for Stallions vs Maulers – good luck, win big!
Even the oddsmakers expect this Stallions versus Maulers matchup to be a blowout, right now approaching a two-touchdown spread in favor of the hometown team that has yet to lose as they face a Maulers team that is working in a new QB and has big trouble scoring at all.
So, it’s a no-brainer, right? Put it all on Birmingham to win? Except in pro football either team can figure out a way to win and if the Stallions phone it in and the Maulers use their upgraded offense to full effect, then suddenly it becomes a trap game that shocks the world.
Keep in mind that the Stallions tend to start slow, so imagine a scenario where that happens yet again but they can’t get another comeback win in the end, that 4th quarter surge game plan unsustainable in a league full of injuries and roster changes, this game no gimmee at all.
Week 5 was the first time the Pittsburgh Maulers tried out new QB Vad Lee under center, and it was also their first win, so no doubt HC Kirby Wilson and OC John Tomlinson got excited and expected Lee to do the same thing last week against the New Orleans Breakers.
Except that didn’t happen, and Lee’s offense was kept off the scoreboard in the first half and kept to just a field goal in the third quarter, and by that time the game was lost, the final score 16-26, with Vad completing 17/33 (51.5%) of his passes for 198 yards, a TD and 2 INTs.
It’s good news for the low-scoring Maulers (who average just 12.7 points per game) that their new QB knows how to get in the end zone, but this could be another rough outing for Pitt’s evolving offense against a Stallions D that keeps opponents to 284 yards of offense per game.
When a Spring Football player has NFL experience, it goes a long way in the USFL, and dual threat running back Bo Scarborough spent some time in the big league as a Cowboys seventh round draft pick in 2018 who went on to start for the Detroit Lions who eventually waived him.
On May 12, Scarborough signed up to rush for the Birmingham Stallions, and in the two games he has played he has averaged 5.6 yards per carry, his 23 carries going for 129 yards and a rushing TD, a new offensive weapon that opponents will have to now game plan against.
Last week in the Stallions win over the Michigan Panthers, Scarborough led his team in rushing with 16 carries for 104 yards and a touchdown, that 6.5 yards per carry average turning heads by giving QBs J’Mar Smith and Alex McGough a nice upgrade out of the backfield.
Keep an eye out for Pittsburgh Maulers WR Tre Walker as his new QB Vad Lee (see above) adjusts to the offense he has been learning for just two weeks, he and Walker hooking up just twice last week off eight targets for 31 yards in the loss to the Breakers, low numbers for Tre.
Walker is the second most productive wide receiver in the league right now with 29 total catches off 51 targets for 318 yards but no touchdowns, that lack of scoring indicative of how the Maulers have been playing this season, the team putting up less than 13 points each game.
Another Maulers receiver worth watching is Bailey Gaither, a San Jose State product with some recent NFL camp experience (Packers, 2021) who is most likely hoping his USFL play will get him noticed again, so far with 20 catches off 32 targets for 296 yards and 4 TDs this season.
