On the heels of the announcement that the BetMGM app will be available to Nevada sports bettors in time for March Madness, the company also released the news that the software will be able to stream live sporting events for customers.
The company has planned the creation of its own streaming platform via the mobile application for months and the announcement comes with the news that bettors will be able to view live streams of events across Europe, such as soccer and tennis, as well as games held in the United States. For the customer, streaming will be available in the app’s quick-bet function that offers customers the opportunity to make live wagers during the match. The feature is now available on the app and will grow as MGM moves into new states and territories according to Ray Doyle, director of digital media at Roar Digital, the company that operates the BetMGM app.
“We know that high-quality, live sports content dramatically enhances the in-play betting experience, and we wanted users to be able to watch and enjoy sporting events from around the world conveniently within the BetMGM app,” Doyle told Front Office Sports.
“We’re confident that adding to our live video content offering provides a unique user experience and can ultimately set BetMGM’s platform apart from the rest.”

BetMGM is the second gaming company to offer live streaming services as FanDuel introduced a similar feature on their betting app late last year.
Broadcast rights for the sporting events came from several media sources as MGM has a partnership with programming powerhouse Verizon Media that facilitated the obstacles associated with securing the approval to offer the streams.
“All we can say right now is that there are a wide variety of options we’re considering for how to enhance our live-streamed sports content,” Doyle said. “We plan to grow the number and types of sports events live-streamed. The events that are currently available … make it among the leading providers of live sports streaming in mobile betting, and we’re just getting started.”

The app primarily offers streams of live tennis and soccer matches across Europe. In soccer, the app features multiple levels of lower English soccer leagues including the English Championship and English League 1 and 2.
Bettors can also wager on several cup tournaments in England and the rest of Europe including the English EFL Cup, Czech Cup, and French Cup. Other leagues featured on the app are the Danish 1st Division, Czech first league and the Polish Premier League among many others.
Tennis tournaments include the ATP Cup, ATP 1000s and the annual Roland Garros event in May.
One of the biggest reasons that the BetMGM announcement is notable is the emergence of gaming companies pushing the limits of mobile apps to offer more as the online market continues to expand.
In New Jersey, for example, roughly 80% of all wagers in the last year have come from mobile applications. That percentage accounted for $2.4 billion of the $3.2 billion wagered in the state’s first year of legalization.
By integrating live streaming with the opportunity to live bet, the companies are offering an exciting option that provides a one-stop-shop for media consumption and betting entertainment.
