Live professional boxing comes from the Bournemouth Centre in Dorset, England, this weekend with a stacked card promoted by Boxxer. The action will be shown live to a global audience thanks to Sky Sports, with armchair fans joining the thousands in attendance. All viewers will be treated to a spectacular evening as the boxing scene aims to go out with a bang before the winter break. Time for one more winner and another nice profit heading into Christmas, wouldn’t you say?
Rocky Fielding fights Dan Azeez in the headline act with 12 rounds scheduled. The British and Commonwealth light heavyweight titles are there to be won, and with both fighters believing they are good enough to add another win to their already impressive records, this should be a battle to savor. But who will come out on top and enter the new year as a respected champion, paving the way for the big-money fights in 2023? As regular readers of our column already know, that’s why we’re here.
We have enjoyed a hugely successful year, pointing our loyal readers toward exciting winners and impressive profits. All the top names have been in action at least once during 2022, and we’ve had no trouble finding the winners. Being a credible boxing tipster isn’t just about picking winners, though. Anyone can predict a short-priced favourite to bag a victory, and there are lots of hot picks in this sport. But we do things differently, finding the value, researching form, comparing odds, and picking the best bet at generous odds.
Odds taken from Caesars Sportsbook
The above table contains the odds offered on the Azeez v Fielding fight on Saturday. As you can see, Dan is the red-hot favourite, with traders working for all major betting apps convinced he will win. The odds suggest this is more a case of how he gets the victory rather than if he gets the victory. But writing any fighter off at this level is dangerous, especially Rocky, who has lived up to his name more than once. The Liverpudlian has carved a career out of upsetting the odds and earning backers big profits.
He burst onto the scene doing precisely that when winning the Matchroom Sports Prizefighter competition with three knockouts. As well as bagging the £32,000 prize money that was on offer at the time, he also went home with the KO bonus multiplied by three. Fielding was the first man to achieve this feat, meaning he goes down in British boxing folklore. It’s a shame Matchroom doesn’t do the Prizefighter competition these days, as it was a great format and great for bettors. Perhaps we’ll see it return in 2023.
The odds in the table above are quoted from the Caesars Sportsbook, one of the biggest names in online boxing betting. They are renowned for offering more generous odds than you’ll find at the competition, exciting markets and specials, in-play betting, and an attractive welcome bonus. Dan Azeez if the favourite, and it’s not difficult to see why traders have taken that view. The 33-year-old from Lewisham, London, brings a professional record of 17 wins from as many contests, with 11 of his victories coming by knockout. He is currently ranked number seven in the UK and 21 worldwide. But all that will change after this fight, and his team knows it. If they claim another victory, Azeez will head home for Christmas with both the British and Commonwealth titles in his possession. He’ll also improve his world rankings, and a win over Fielding would catch the eye of some prominent names on both sides of the Atlantic.
In the summer, Dan was last seen in action beating Shakan Pitters for the British title at the Echo Arena, Liverpool. That massive win in his career helped the Londoner jump the queue toward bigger fights and better opponents. And that’s a good thing because he doesn’t have the luxury of being able to hang around for much longer. At 33 years old, time is against him. He must win if he’s serious about making it to the world level. His opponent has already been there. Lose to Rocky and Dan is likely to spend his career at the domestic level. His record and experience will help him get bouts for decent cash against rising stars, but he’d go in as the opponent.
Despite the winning form of Azeez and the fact the bookies have him picked, we’re going against him on Saturday. Our stake will be riding on the battle-hardened experience of Fielding, who has seen it all before. He has been the up-and-coming fighter, and he’s beaten the best of the emerging talent. He has even fought for world championships. The training camps, coaching, and steely character needed to survive at that level set him apart from his opponent. That will become obvious the longer this fight goes.
Fielding enters the arena with his card showing 30 wins against two defeats in a career that can be traced back to 2010. The 35-year-old has endured a challenging career spent chasing grand prizes, and that will begin to show now that he’s entering the later part of his story. But he lives right, and we doubt he’s the kind of boxer that will get old overnight.
There’s still plenty left in the tank, and we’re shocked the sportsbooks have written him off. If Fielding is anywhere near his best - and we think he will be - there’s only one winner here.
