In this article, you’ll find information on the fight and how you can watch it, expert predictions on how the bout should play out, including a solid selection on the winner. There’s also information on the current betting available, including which online sportsbook is giving big odds on our predictions and where you can get great odds on your bets.
As this is such a huge fight in the boxing business, in Vegas and for the sports gambling industry, the leading bookies have pulled out all the stops, offering promotions and special offers to both new customers and existing players. When making your bets, it’s worth checking the promotions page of your chosen bookmaker to see what deals they are offering on Canelo v Plant. Some of the best promos we noticed were enhanced odds on Alvarez to win, cashback, profit boosts for parlays, and both fighters to be knocked down or for there to be no knockdowns in the bout. Great deals and a good way to add extra spice to the occasion, but the latter isn’t expected to see too much attention.
The pre-fight betting failed to throw up any surprises, and it was obvious as soon as the unification bout was announced that Alvarez would be a red hot favorite in the betting. Most traders quote Saul like losing isn’t an option while they happily offer Plant as a no-hoper, a man here simply to lose his belt. The draw is just a little shorter than it would be given the draw level finishes on Canelo’s record. As well as fight-winner betting, there are also several other eye-catching betting options and markets. Bet on the method of victory for a better price on your fighter. Back them to win by knockout or on points.

Saturday brings us another contender for fight of the year and, yet again, Mexican superstar Saul Alvarez is involved. Despite being a multi-weight world champion and operating during the crippling coronavirus restrictions, this will be the third time we’ve seen Alvarez in action this year and the fourth in less than 12 months following a convincing points win over Callum Smith at the Alamodome in San Antonio last December.
Caleb Plant is the latest fighter handed a chance to try and stop the Mexican express train that is Canelo. The American fighter may be viewed as a mere opponent in this bout, a man here to lose and enhance the record of Saul, but he too is a world champion. Casual followers of the fight game may have watched the build-up to this contest and would be forgiven for not knowing Plant risks his world championship belt, bringing the respected and hard-earned IBF strap to the table.
The winner of this bout will leave with all four titles, but which fighter will that be? Will Canelo continue his stunning winning run and cement his legacy as the best pound for pound fighter of his generation. Will Caleb win to cause the sport’s biggest upset since overweight and unfit Andy Ruiz Jr came in at short notice to knock out Anthony Joshua and become world heavyweight champion in New York?
We’ll get the answer to that question on Saturday when the rivals meet in the ring at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas before a capacity crowd and the millions watching live on US Showtime PPV. A huge global television audience will follow this fight, and major bookmakers have reacted to the increased levels of interest and the publicity that follows Alvarez wherever he goes and whenever he fights.
This is one of the most important fights in the already glittering career of Alvarez as he stands on the edge of unifying the super middleweight title and adding Plant’s IBF belt to the stunning collection of championships he already owns. A win here would ensure he is remembered as the greatest fighter of his age, the pound for pound king of boxing and a man that will go down in history as one of the greatest Mexicans that ever lived. That’s no mean feat, given Mexico has produced some incredible champions over the years.
It may be an important fight for Alvarez, but to get over the line and win, he must beat an opponent that isn’t even in the top two he has faced over the last 12 months. In that time, Plant would be ranked as the third-best opponent behind Billy Joe Saunders, who Canelo blew away inside eight rounds and Callum Smith, who the Mexican beat comfortably on points and probably should have stopped in the later rounds.
It’s always a dangerous game to write a fighter off, but Alvarez will beat Plant, and he’ll do it in style. Take Canelo to win this by stoppage between rounds 7-9. It’s difficult to make a strong case for Plant winning this fight. Does he have the power to hurt and stop one of the toughest around? His stats suggest not. Can he out-box Canelo and run up an advantage on the scorecards? More than likely, but how long for? BJS tried it and was eventually smashed into submission with lasting damage caused to his eye socket and jaw. Alvarez isn’t the perfect fighter, and no man is unbeatable, but the Mexican isn’t far off it.
