Sri Lanka vs Australia Prediction and Pick

The head-to-head records are skewed in favour of Australia, as they have won 13 matches against Sri Lanka, while the Lankan Lions have got the better of the Kangaroos on only nine occasions in the shortest format of the game. This statistic, alongside the difference in the current form of both teams, makes Australia the clear favourites to win this match.

Australia Look For Whitewash as Sri Lanka Remained Determined to Salvage Lost Pride at Home

Sri Lanka and Australia will cross swords for the third T20I of the three-match series on Saturday, 11th June. This match will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele.

There will not be anything significant at stake in this match, except perhaps pride for Sri Lanka, as the Aussies have already won the series after winning the first couple of matches.

In the first match, Sri Lanka batted first and scored 128 runs, which Aaron Finch’s team chased comfortably without losing any wickets. The skipper himself played a knock of unbeaten 61 runs, while his opening partner David Warner remained unbeaten on 70.

Meanwhile, the second game did offer us some sort of a contest, though there was no change in the ultimate outcome. The Lankans batted first and scored 124 runs, but their bowlers did turn up on this occasion. At one stage, Australia were 99/7 and it seemed that the hosts will restore parity in the series, but wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade’s knock of unbeaten 26 runs saved the day for the visitors. As for Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga bowled brilliantly in that match, picking up four wickets.

Team News

After losing both of the first couple of matches, it is imperative that Sri Lanka will want to change their playing combination. Opening batter Danushka Gunathilaka has not looked in good touch, having scored only 30 runs in the first two matches. In his place, Nuwanidu Fernando could be given a chance.

Barring that, Maheesh Theekshana might have had a decent 2022 Indian Premier League campaign for Chennai Super Kings, but he has failed to continue that form in this series. He might have to make way for Praveen Jayawickrama in this fixture after going wicketless in the previous games.

On the other hand, Australia could opt to stick with their winning combination, but there is room for one particular change. Ashton Agar has not looked threatening on the Lankan track, and among those Australian bowlers who have bowled a minimum of four overs, he is the only one who has failed to pick up any wickets. Hence, he could be dropped for Mitchell Swepson in this match.

Key Players

Charith Asalanka: Charith Asalanka is the only Sri Lankan batter who has so far been able to keep the Australian bowlers under control in this series. He is the leading run-scorer for his team with 77 runs from two matches, which has come at an average of 38.50 and a strike rate of 114.92. The lad from Elpitiya scored 38 runs in the first match, while in the last encounter, he played a decent knock of 39 runs from 22 deliveries, hitting two fours and as many sixes in the process.

David Warner: Talking about IPL 2022 form, one player who has been able to extend his good run of form from that competition is David Warner. The veteran opening batter is currently the leading run-scorer in this series, having scored 91 runs at a fantastic strike rate of 168.51. He could score only 21 runs in the last match, but in the opening encounter, he played a scintillating knock of unbeaten 70 runs.
