JD Gaming will undeniably go into this game as heavy underdogs against the reigning champions of the world. JD Gaming are not a bad team, not by any means, but their depth pales in comparison to the all-round strength of Edward Gaming.
JD Gaming finished the summer split of 2021 with a 7-9 record. Their season collapsed in incredible fashion as they ended up losing their last six matches on the bounce to fall out of the playoffs spots. JD Gaming eventually finished 12th in summer.
Edward Gaming, on the other hand, went all the way to the final and beat FunPlus Phoenix in a terrific end to claim the summer title of 2021. They then went on to beat the favorites Damwon Gaming in the final of Worlds to claim that title as well. The favorites here, in a resounding manner, are Edward Gaming.
JD Gaming have made a change in the most important position inside Summoner’s Rift: bot lane. They will now likely have Hope in that position after Loken’s departure from the franchise. Hope brings with him plenty of experience as bot laner, which will make him a reliable kill option for JD Gaming.
Lpc, who was JD Gaming’s back up for Loken last split, could also get some time if Hope fails to find his feet in the early going. Lpc played five maps in the summer split of 2021, producing an average of four kills and a kill participation of close to 10.
Yagao will hold his position as mid laner for the franchise. He had a solid 2021 summer, with averages of 3.38 kills and 5.7 assists per map at a KDA of 3.39. Look for him to have another steady split in the LPL.
The champions of the world
Edward Gaming had a sensational end to 2021, first winning the summer split before going on to even claim the crown of the world by beating Damwon Gaming in an unexpected result in the final of the LoL World Championship.
Predictably, Edward Gaming has retained the core of that successful run in 2021, keeping Scout and Viper to pick up the middle and bottom lane. Scout had 4.03 kills and 6.69 assists at a KDA of 5.21 while Viper was Edward’s most efficient player in summer with a KDA of 6.16, built on 4.2 kills, 1.6 deaths and 5.66 assists per map.
Jiejie will also keep his spot as jungler, a vital position for an aggressive team like Edward Gaming because of the additional kill propensity through flanking from the jungle. Flandre, who played the entirety of summer of the LPL as top laner last season, will also be a vital cog in this functioning Edward Gaming team.

This might be a game ripe for an upset because Anyone’s Legend might take some time to find fluency.
LGD Gaming are an experienced outfit that have failed to find their best through the last few splits but the spring of 2022 presents an opportunity to put that behind them. LGD Gaming just missed out on the playoffs in summer of 2021, winning 7 of 16 matches to finish 11th, out of the top 10.
They had a map record of 17-20, winning 46 percent of their maps. At least, they would want to improve on that position and make the postseason this year. As a result, they might not be a bad bet, especially considering the higher payout on them at current odds.
LGD Gaming have signed a roster that is very different from the one that competed in 2021. That includes changes in the vital mid-lane and bot laner positions. Eric, who did not participate at all in the summer split of the LPL last year, will likely be the go-to bot laner for LGD this season.
The top laner duties will be shared between Garvey and Fairness, who both represented LGD Gaming last season. Garvey played 17 maps while Fearness was given 20 maps in the regular season. Both players were excellent from a kill standpoint, producing an average of about three kills per map combined between them.
The mid laner position will be up for grabs between Kui and Jay. Neither of those players was active in the LPL in the summer of 2021 either. LGD Gaming will have to find their chemistry quickly or this could be a long spring split for the team.
Considering the experience of Anyone’s Legend’s roster, you might expect some class to be displayed by the new franchise. A lot of reliance will be on Betty, who has had plenty of experience on this big stage previously.
In fact, in the summer split last year, Betty played 30 maps and produced a kill participation of over 10 (3.37 kills and 6.97 assists) at a KDA of 4.91. That KDA was the highest in his team Rogue Warriors, another indicator of his growing prowess as a bot laner capable of staying effective while also maintaining a low death rate.
