It felt significant that Bryson DeChambeau won LIV Korea last time out.
The American had been sensational when winning twice in the late summer of 2023 and, while he used those experiences to become a major championship machine in 2024 and early this year, the wins at LIV had cooled off.
Moreover, he had led LIV Miami, the Masters, and LIV Mexico City at some point in the tournament without converting the win.
That was a three-event run of startling form, but it was also frustrating.
With the duck now broken, we should expect more fireworks from DeChambeau.
This week’s venue hosted the first four Presidents Cups held in America (and also last year’s Solheim Cup).
As can be seen from the list of top-scorers, the course favors elite golfers.
Every one of those golfers won a major championship with the sole exception of Chris DiMarco - and he would have won one, maybe two, but for the brilliance of Tiger Woods (twice he denied him - at the 2005 Masters and the 2006 Open).

It is a par-71 that plays to 7,354 yards
There is bent grass on the greens
Other RTJ designs include Baltusrol, Bellerive, Congressional, Firestone, Hazeltine, Port Royal, Wilmington, and Valderrama

The big hitter’s magnificent form in the majors continued at the PGA Championship with second place behind Scottie Scheffler. He’s now recorded top six finishes in the last five American majors and will defend the US Open next week. He missed the cut at RTJ’s Bellerive but has finished second and ninth at Valderrama in LIV Andalucia.

The big man continues to pour out the top finishes on LIV and remains 100% at landing a top 10. He is also regaining his major championship mojo, following up his T14 in the Masters with eighth in the PGA Championship. His RTJ record is strong. He’s played seven events on them and landed five top 10s with a best of second at Valderrama.

It will be a relief that, at the 24th attempt, the Chilean finally landed a first major top 10 finish in the PGA Championship. With that out of the way, he can take aim at fully transferring his LIV Golf quality to the highest stage. He’s played four events on RTJ courses and finished top 10 in the last three.

Patrick Reed was tripped up by RTJ’s Bellerive in the 2018 PGA Championship but since then he has taken a shine to the architect’s designs.
He was second at Port Royal on the PGA Tour in 2022, and was then fifth and fourth at Valderrama on LIV Golf.
He missed the cut in the PGA Championship last time out, but that will have allowed for a reset and we can expect him to be fully determined to return to the form he showed before then when he racked up four top seven finishes in five starts.
A winner in Hong Kong late last year he’ll be desperate for a first LIV win and this looks like a good spot for him.

The Aussie Lucas Herbert is currently riding a wonderful wave of form.
His last seven starts around the world have all been top 20s including fourth at LIV Hong Kong and second at LIV Mexico City.
He was also a winner last time out at the International Series Japan.
He lacks the major championship pedigree of our other two picks this week but he has good memories of RTJ designs.
He won his first PGA Tour title at Port Royal in the 2021 Bermuda Championship and he was T15 in the 2022 BMW Championship at Wilmington.
We’ll back him each way at +2200 with bet365.

Spain’s Sergio Garcia has a sparkling record on RTJ courses which is massively skewed by his affection for Valderrama.
He has played that course 17 times, finishing top 10 on all but one occasion and he has four wins in his last seven starts there including LIV Andalucia last summer.
But he has played nicely at RTJ’s Atlanta Athletic Club, Hazeltine, and Bellerive, too.
He was a winner again on LIV in Hong Kong in March and can hit the first page of the leaderboard once more on a course that should suit him.
Back him for a top 10 with bet365 offering +180.
