Mets vs Red Sox Predictions

Our two favorite bets today come from a pair of cross-country matchups. The first features the New York Mets looking to stay hot against an NL West-leading LA Dodgers team. The second is a matchup between the Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres.

Below, we’ll share our favorite bets along with the latest insights you need to bet confidently on both. We’ll be using odds from BetMGM Sportsbook, which is currently giving new players a $1,500 First Bet Offer when they sign up using promo code WSNMGM.

MLB Best Bets: Mets vs. Dodgers (4:05 PM EST)

Mets ML (+150 at BetMGM Sportsbook)

While the Dodgers have the better roster, these teams have been trending in different directions over the last couple of weeks. The Dodgers have lost five of their previous seven games coming into the series, while the Mets have won six during that same span. New York will carry that momentum into this series, combining with their edge on the mound to get a win this afternoon.

The Mets will have one of their best young arms on the mound in Jose Butto (0-0, 0.75 ERA). The 26-year-old righty is in his first season as a full-time member of the Mets rotation. He looked good in nine appearances (7 starts) last year, finishing with a 3.64 ERA. He has been even better early in 2024, allowing just one run on five hits over 12 innings. We think his scoreless streak will be snapped against the Dodgers, but he’ll still be able to out-perform Gavin Stone (1-1, 6.14 ERA. 1.57 WHIP).

Like Butto, Stone is a young prospect in his first season as a full-time member of the rotation. Unlike Butto, he has yet to find much success. Stone appeared in eight games last season (four starts) and finished with an ERA of 9.00. While he is coming off his best start, we think he shows his youth against a Mets team that has been putting up big run totals.

MLB Best Bets: Blue Jays vs. Padres (8:40 PM EST)

Blue Jays ML (-115 at BetMGM Sportsbook)

The biggest reason we like the Jays to win tonight’s matchup with the Padres is Jose Berrios (3-0, 1.05 ERA, 0.97 WHIP). The 29-year-old bounced back last year after a brutal 2022 campaign, and that success has continued into this season. He’s made four starts, registering a quality start in each. Berrios has been especially great over his last two starts, delivering 13 ⅔ scoreless innings on six hits and three walks. As talented as the Padres are, Berrios is good enough to keep them quiet tonight.

Another reason we like this bet is that the Jays have been playing at a high level over the last week. They’ve won five of their previous six games, including a 5-1 victory over the Padres yesterday. While their pitching has been a big reason for their success, the offense is finally coming alive. Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. are heating up, giving Toronto the edge they have been missing to start the season.

The Padres have also been winning, but not at the same rate. San Diego is 3-3 over its previous six games and has lost two straight. Uneven offensive performances have been an issue, scoring a combined one run over its last two games. This lineup is filled with dangerous hitters like Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr., but it’ll have its hands full against a Jays pitcher who has been dominant to open the 2024 season.
