Best MLB Bets Today: The Big Apple Squares Off Against the City of Angels

Today, we have a pair of bets from MLB games involving the LA and New York teams. The first comes from a cross-country battle between the Dodgers and Mets. The other involves a game between the Yankees and the Angels.

The Dodgers enter this game in a slump, but we expect them to turn things around big time tonight. They have a far better offense than the inconsistent Mets, led by a monster season from Shohei Ohtani. He joins Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman to give the Dodgers the best lineup in baseball. They will have a chance to show that tonight against Jose Quintana (1-4, 5.13 ERA) and the Mets.

Quintana has seen mixed results in 2024. While he has dazzled in some starts, good offenses have hit him very hard. While he was a bit better in his last start, he still owns an 8.05 ERA across four starts this month. That is a bad sign as he prepares to take the mound against a Dodgers team with a .289 batting average against him. Given that the Mets are a mess, we don't expect Quintana to get enough help to keep this game close.

The Dodgers will have Tyler Glasnow (6-3, 3.09 ERA, 0.91 WHIP) making the start this evening. The 30-year-old has been stellar for the Dodgers but has struggled in his last two outings. However, he will be facing a Mets team he dominated one month ago. Glasnow held New York scoreless over seven innings while striking out 10. What is most impressive is that the start came when the Mets were playing their best baseball, winning eight of their previous nine games. The team is nowhere near that level now, so expect another gem from the LA starter tonight.

Best MLB Bets Today: Yankees vs. Angels (9:38 PM EST)

Yankees -1.5 (-110 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

The New York Yankees continue to look like one of the best teams in baseball. Things have gotten even better as Aaron Judge (.279 BA, 17 HR, 39 RBI) continues to swing. The former AL MVP has had a ridiculous May, with a 1.443 OPS. He and Juan Soto (.310 BA, 14 HR, 44 RBI) have been the deadliest 1-2 punch in the league, and they will have another big night tonight.

The Angels will have Griffen Canning (2-4, 5.05 ERA) on the bump tonight. The 28-year-old has been bad in 2024 but has begun to turn things around in May. Canning did a good job limiting the Yankees twice last season but did struggle to limit baserunners. New York had a big problem driving in runs in 2023, but that isn’t the case this year with Soto in the lineup. Considering that Canning has continued to struggle to limit walks and hits, we think he has an ugly showing at home tonight. 

The Yankees will turn to Nestor Cortes (3-4, 3.29 ERA) to make the start tonight. The lefty was very bad in 2023 but has been stellar this season. He is currently riding a 12-inning scoreless streak, thanks mainly to his ability to keep runners off the bases (1.07 WHIP). While the Angels offense has outperformed expectations after Mike Trout's injury, Cortes will have plenty of run support to work behind. We see him delivering a quality start, leading to a lopsided win for Chicago.
