Don’t look now, but the Reds are one of the hottest teams in baseball, thanks to a seven-game win streak that was snapped on Sunday. A big reason for their recent success has been their play at the plate, averaging 6.1 runs in their previous ten games coming into this series with Cleveland. While they will be up against a talented Guardians starter, we love the Reds' chances to stay hot tonight.
Cleveland will have Tanner Bibee (4-1, 3.73 ERA) on the mound against the Reds. The second-year pitcher has been a big piece of the rotation this season. Bibee stumbled to begin May but has rebounded over his last four starts. However, his previous outing was far from impressive as he allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk against the Royals. While those aren’t terrible numbers, we expect even worse wons from Bibee against a hot Cincinnati offense tonight.
The Reds will have Nick Lodolo (6-2, 2.92 ERA) starting at home tonight. The young lefty has been fantastic in 2024 and has become one of the team’s top pitchers. Lodolo has been especially hot of late, allowing just four runs over his last three starts. Not only is he keeping runners off the board, but his 0.99 WHIP shows that he is also limiting baserunners.

Jong Gray (2-2, 2.12 ERA) has been a solid starter throughout his long career, but he isn’t as good as his current numbers show. The 32-year-old has helped the team overcome a shortage of healthy starting pitching before picking up an injury of his own last month. Gray returned last week to deliver 2 ⅓ shut-out innings against the Giants, but now he’ll be up against one of the best lineups in the league.
The Dodgers lineup has lived up to the hype so far in 2024. They rank in the top five of the league in both batting average and runs scored, leading them to a massive lead in the NL West. That is bad news for Gray, who has a 4.33 ERA over his ten-year career. As well as the veteran is pitching, the Dodgers have been crushing even the best pitchers in the league this season. Combined with a struggling Rangers offense, you can see why we expect a lopsided loss tonight.
The Dodgers will have Walker Buehler (1-3, 4.82 ERA) making the start opposite of Gray tonight. The 29-year-old picked up an injury in 2022 that limited him to just 12 games before missing the entire 2023 season. He has made six starts this season, but the results have been mixed.
We love his chances to deliver a vintage Buehler start tonight as he faces a Rangers team that ranks in the middle of the pack in both runs scored and batting average. Considering that Corey Seager is dealing with a hamstring injury and may not play, we think the Dodgers starter cruises through this struggling Texas lineup.
