Best MLB Bets Today: Is Corbin Burnes Broken?
We are very early into the 2025 season, but Corbin Burnes already seems to be one of the biggest busts of the offseason. He has struggled after signing a large contract with Arizona, but hasn’t been able to figure things out. We’ll share our favorite bet for his start against the Cubs today, along with two others we are locking in.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Chicago Cubs (2:20 PM EST)
| Run Line | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diamondbacks | -1.5 (+115) | -135 | Over 10.5 (-115) |
| Cubs | +1.5 (-135) | +115 | Under 10.5 (-105) |
PICK: Over 10.5 (-115) at Caesars Sportsbook
Cobrin Burnes (0-1, 5.28 ERA, 1.57 WHIP) has not been the ace that the D-backs thought they were getting. His ERA and WHIP are ugly, and things haven’t shown signs of turning around. He delivered his first quality start of the season against his former team (the Brewers), but it was far from pretty.
Burnes will continue to struggle against a familiar foe this afternoon. The Cubs have 109 at-bats against the 30-year-old and have posted a .303 average and .505 slugging percentage. Expect to see Dansby Swanson lead the way, with a 1.569 OPS against the righty over 20 at-bats.
The Cubs will also have a former Brewer on the mound in Colin Rea (1 SV, 1.00 ERA, 1.11 WHIP). The veteran has been serving as a reliever but will make his second spot start of the season. While he has been a successful starter in the past, he won’t be able to go deep into this game. That means he’ll be turning things over to a struggling bullpen that injuries have hammered.
Look for Arizona’s potent lineup to do some serious damage throughout this game, leading to an easy cover.

Athletics vs. Milwaukee Brewers (8:10 PM EST)
| Run Line | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Athletics | +1.5 (-160) | +135 | Over 8 (-105) |
| Brewers | -1.5 (+135) | -160 | Under 8 (-115) |
PICK: Brewers -1.5 (+135) at Caesars Sportsbook
The A’s have looked much improved in 2025, but they’ll pick up a lopsided loss tonight. One primary reason is Brewers ace Freddy Peralta (1-1, 2.31 ERA, 0.90 WHIP). The righty is off to a fantastic start, posting a 1.96 ERA across three starts this month. He held the Royals to just one run over eight innings in his last home start, and we expect to see a similar performance tonight.
The A’s lineup is putting up impressive numbers, but a breakout campaign from 23-year-old Tyler Soderstrom inflates them. The first baseman has a .324 average to go with eight home runs and 17 RBIs. As impressive as it has been to watch, he will be facing a veteran ace on the mound tonight. Peralta will get the best of him tonight, helping to keep the A’s bats quiet.
The Athletics will have one of their top pitching prospects on the mound in JT Ginn (1-0, 1.69 ERA, 1.31 WHIP). He was fantastic in his sole start of the season, but that came at home. Now he’ll be making his first road start against a Brewers lineup that has put up five runs in two consecutive games.

San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Angels (8:40 PM EST)
| Run Line | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Giants | -1.5 (+110) | -155 | Over 8 (-110) |
| Angels | +1.5 (-130) | +130 | Under 8 (-110) |
PICK: Under 8 (-110) at Caesars Sportsbook
This is one of our favorite pitching matchups of the week. On one side is Angels’ starter Tyler Anderson (1-0, 2.87 ERA, 1.15 WHIP). The 35-year-old is back to pitching like an ace, allowing just one run and two hits over two starts in April. The Giants’ lineup is formidable, but they don’t have enough to beat up a red-hot Anderson tonight.
The Giants will also have a veteran ace on the mound in Logan Webb (2-0, 2.63 ERA, 1.13 WHIP). He’s off to another strong start in 2025 and will be facing an Angels lineup he has dominated in the past. The team has a combined batting average of .169 over 59 at-bats.
We have some concerns over the Angels' bullpen, but the Giants have one of the hottest in the league. That will prevent this score from getting out of control, making it easier to cover the total.
