My Pick: Rangers Moneyline (-125)

In an absolutely loaded slate of MLB action on Tuesday night, one of the underrated games on the schedule will take place in Chicago. There, the Chicago White Sox will host the Texas Rangers, in a game with a fascinating pitching matchup. While the White Sox send a starter to the hill who was a preseason favorite to win the Cy Young in the American League, the Rangers send a starter to the mound who is now on the short list of favorites to win it as July approaches.

That starter for the Rangers is Nathan Eovaldi, who has been on fire, and a big reason that the Rangers are in first place in the AL West standings. Eovaldi is 9-3 on the season with an ERA of 2.52, having suffered his first loss since mid-April in his last outing against the Los Angeles Angels. But it would be myopic to think that Eovaldi is not going to get back on track in this game against a White Sox team that has a losing record at home on the season.

On the other side of this pitching matchup is Dylan Cease of the Chicago White Sox, who has won just one start over the last two months. Cease won two of his first three starts, and has gone just 1-3 since then. Against a red hot Rangers team, who picked up a 5-2 win in the first game of this series, Cease will once again fail to deliver a win while Eovaldi gets his 10th on the year.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Los Angeles Angels

Next on our list of MLB best bets for Tuesday is the Freeway Series, as the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels get set to do battle in Anaheim, which is not Los Angeles. In this contest, expect the Dodgers to win and cover the runline as favorites behind Clayton Kershaw on the hill. While the Angels come into this series playing superior baseball of late, the Dodgers have a decided pitching edge that should see them through this contest.

Kershaw has been electric this season despite concerns before the start of the year that his age would impact his productivity. The Dodgers ace is 8-4 on the season with an ERA of 2.95 over his 82.1 innings of work. He has gone just shy of a month without picking up a loss, and he should continue that run against an Angels team that sends a struggling starting pitcher to the mound here.

Reid Detmers is that struggling starting pitcher for the Angels, as he enters this contest with a 1-5 record and a 4.48 ERA on the season. Detmers’ lone win on the season came on June 8 over the Chicago Cubs, but the Angels are just 4-8 in games he has started during the 2023 season. Expect the Angels to continue to struggle with Detmers on the mound here against their in-state rivals.

Seattle Mariners vs New York Yankees

My Pick: Yankees Moneyline (-125)

Both the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners have failed to live up to expectations so far this season in Major League Baseball. With both teams sitting in third place or worse in their respective divisions, both teams are in danger of falling significantly behind in the race for the playoffs in the American League if they do not start stringing some wins together. On Tuesday night, expect the Yankees to snap their current losing streak to begin that process.

The Yankees have lost four straight games coming into Tuesday night, but they have the luxury of sending Gerrit Cole to the mound to start in this contest against Seattle. Cole has a 7-1 record this season, and a 2.75 ERA that has kept him in the hunt for the AL Cy Young award throughout this season. He should be able to outduel George Kirby of the Mariners in this game to help his team get back into the win column.

In fairness to Kirby, he did throw eight shutout innings against the Yankees in his lone outing against them this season. However, some proper context is required for that performance, as that was a 1-0 game that was won in the bottom of the 10th by the M’s. On the road in Yankee Stadium, Kirby will have a much tougher time against the Yankee lineup.
