Best MLB Prop Bets 2024 05 17

We’re officially back on track after hitting on four of our five MLB props yesterday and earning a profit of nearly three units. Naturally, we’re hoping to ride that wave of momentum on Friday and enjoy the weekend. We’ve decided to stick with some obvious candidates while also getting aggressive with a home run prop. The odds for Friday’s games are from DraftKings Sportsbook, which is giving new users $200 in bonus bets when they sign up and place a bet of $5.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Pirates vs. Cubs (2:20 PM, EST)

Oneil Cruz Over 0.5 Home Runs (+500) at DraftKings

It’s been a while since we made a home run pick, but there was something about Cruz that jumped out to us. In his last eight games, he has five doubles and two home runs, so the power has been coming regularly from him. He’s also facing Kyle Hendricks, who has been a disaster this season. In one of his two career at-bats against Hendricks, Cruz hit a home run. Equally important, Hendricks has a 10.04 ERA while allowing nine homers in just 26 innings of work. He’s allowed at least one homer in each of his starts this year, so the stars look aligned for Cruz to hit one on Friday.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: White Sox vs. Yankees (7:05 PM, EST)

Aaron Judge Over 1.5 Total Bases (-110) at DraftKings

Judge is raging hot right now with five doubles and a home run in his last two games. He’s also had multiple hits in three of his last four games. Based on that, giving him even odds to get over 1.5 total bases seems like a steal. On Friday, he and the Yankees will face Mike Clevinger, who has had mixed results over his first two starts of the season. In his career, Judge is 4 for 11 with a home run against Clevinger. That's enough to make us think that Judge is going to stay hot with either multiple hits or another extra-base hit.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Padres vs. Braves (7:20 PM, EST)

Max Fried Under 5.5 Hits Allowed (-140) at DraftKings

Frankly, we would have accepted under 4.5 hits allowed by Fried, even against a talented San Diego lineup. We’ll happily take under 5.5 hits from the Atlanta ace. Last time out, Fried threw seven hitless innings against the Mets. He was atrocious in his first two starts of the season but has been outstanding since then. The southpaw has held opponents to four hits or less in five of his last six starts. While a couple of Padres have had success against him in a small sample size, Jake Cronenworth, Xander Bogaerts, Jurickson Profar, and Manny Machado are a combined 4 for 33 (.121) in their careers against Fried, so he should be able to handle the Padres.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Reds vs. Dodgers (10:10 PM, EST)

Frankie Montas Over 5.5 Hits Allowed (-115) at DraftKings

There are so many ways we could have faded Montas on Friday. Several key members of the Los Angeles lineup have beat him up during his career. The roster is a combined 23 for 55 (.418) against him with seven home runs. To be fair, Montas has only allowed more than 5.5 hits in two of his seven starts. But if the Giants could get seven hits in 4.2 innings against Montas in his last start, the Dodgers can do the same.

Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 Total Bases (-105) at DraftKings

Ohtani is one member of the Dodgers who's had a lot of success against Montas and faced him the most. He’s 10 for 24 (.417) with four homers against Montas. We probably could have been more aggressive with this pick, but we decided to play it safe with these odds. Despite going hitless on Thursday, Ohtani is the MLB leader in batting average and OPS. In his last six games, Ohtani has four multi-hit games and three extra-base hits, so we feel good about his chances of getting multiple bases with such a favorable matchup.
