While this matchup features some of the most dangerous hitters in baseball, we expect a quiet inning to start off today’s matchup.
The Dodgers are tied for first with the most games, with a run scored in the first innings. They will have a very difficult matchup with Yusei Kikuchi (2-1, 2.28 ERA) on the mound. The Blue Jays starter has been incredible since breaking out in 2023. The 32-year-old has allowed just four runs across four starts this month, which includes two matchups against a great Yankees team.
We like Kikuchi to have a strong outing, starting with the first inning. He has yet to allow a first-inning run across five starts this season, tying for the best mark in baseball. Given that he held the Dodgers to one run last season (came in the 6th inning), we see that streak continuing today.
LA will have their ace on the mound tonight in Tyler Glasnow (4-1, 2.92 ERA). He has been fantastic in his first season with the Dodgers, leading the league in wins and strikeouts (44). He has allowed a first-inning run once, but that came in a rare off night for Glasnow against the Nationals. While Toronto tagged him for four runs last season, they weren't able to do anything against him until the sixth inning. We see him getting off to another strong start against the Jays tonight.
This is the best NRFI bet available over the weekend. Both offenses are good, but two of the hottest pitchers in baseball will be on the mound.
The Phillies will turn to the red-hot Ranger Suarez (4-0, 1.36 ERA) on the mound. The lefty is currently riding a 22-inning scoreless streak. He’s allowed just 11 hits and four walks during that run, dropping his WHIP down to 0.70. He’ll be facing an opponent that he has dominated throughout his career. He has held them scoreless as a reliever and registered quality starts as a part of the rotation. San Diego’s offense has declined since then, so we expect another excellent outing tonight.
The Padres will have the newly acquired Dylan Cease (3-1, 1.82 ERA) starting against the Phillies today. Cease was acquired in the offseason after a brutal 2023 campaign. It has paid off in spades, as the former White Sox ace has bounced back in a major way. He has allowed just four runs across 25 innings in May, thanks mainly to his 0.74 WHIP. Cease has unique stuff that makes him incredibly hard to figure out, especially when facing him for the first time.
