Wednesday’s slate of YRFIs may not feature the most productive offenses, but they are all poised to round back into form against underwhelming pitchers. One of those pitchers include Andre Pallante with the St. Louis Cardinals who makes his first start in 2024 after nine previous appearances. Expect the Reds explosive young core to finally build some offensive momentum against Pallante, mirroring what we saw at the end of 2023. It hasn’t exactly been the start to the season that the St. Louis Cardinals have hoped for, sitting below .500 and in third place of the NL Central. While it’s still early in the year, this has been a disappointment for the preseason division winner favorites. As for the Reds, they have been equally disappointing as they were projected to take the next step forward as a division contender but have yet to configure a lineup that generates consistent offensive production.
Both teams now get the opportunity to build some momentum against two underwhelming pitchers and start making a climb back up the standings to contend for the NL Central division title. The Cardinals are currently 4.5 games back from first while the Reds are trailing right behind them. Every win matters as the NL Central race is as tight as it can be with every team bundled together.
A big reason for the Reds disappointing start to the season stems from their lack of offensive production, a unit that ranks well below league average in Team Total Hits, Runs Scored, RBIs, and On Base Percentage. The Reds now get the opportunity to round back into form against the Cardinals Andre Pallante who makes his first start of the season after nine previous appearances. Pallante enters the contest with an ERA of 6.30 and a WHIP of 1.900.
As for the Cardinals, their surging offense is in position to continue to find success against the Reds starting pitcher Frankie Montas who has underwhelmed in his nine games played so far this season. Montas takes the mound with an ERA of 4.61, a WHIP of 1.415, a lowly 28 Total Strikeouts, 42 Hits Allowed, and 21 Earned Runs Against.

While the Reds and Cardinals battle it out to climb up their division standings, the Cleveland Guardians face off against the Colorado Rockies in an attempt to pad their lead at the top of the AL Central. It’s as good an opportunity as they could ask for as the Rockies stare down the reality of potentially finishing dead last in the entire league, failing to field any sort of production on offense or defense.
Better yet for Cleveland, they face off against the Rockies rotational pitcher Ty Blach who has mightily struggled with punching opposing batters out. In seven games played, Blach has only generated 12 Total Strikeouts to go along with his ERA of 4.55, WHIP of 1.301, 31 Hits Allowed, and 14 Earned Runs Against in 27.2 Innings Pitched. Positive regression also looms large for Cleveland as they rank above league average in On Base Percentage and below average in Team Total Hits.
As for the Rockies, their lowly offense will be in a position to match the Guardians offensive production from the opening pitch against their struggling starting pitcher Logan Allen. Allen will be more prone than ever to getting rocked in the friendliest hitting park in the whole league due to elevation as he has an inability to keep opposing batters off the bases with an ERA of 4.89 and a WHIP of 1.456.
