Austin FC vs Seattle Sounders Predictions and Picks

In spite of the fact that both teams suffered losses in their most recent results, there is a world of a difference between the year that Austin FC and the Seattle Sounders have had.

Scoring has been a serious issue for Austin, and although their defense has been decent, it hasn’t been enough to help compensate for their lack of goals.

While some fans could point to their 4-1 win over the Portland Timbers earlier this month, that victory seems to be more like a flash in the pan.

And speaking of a flash in the pan, let’s bring up Seattle’s latest defeat.

Our Pick

It was only a matter of time before the Sounders’ undefeated streak would be snapped, and regardless of their first loss earned last weekend, they’ll be in good shape for the rest of the year. The argument could also be made that they’ll be motivated to quickly bounce back..

After setting an MLS record for a best-ever start to a season, the Sounders’ undefeated streak finally came to an end last weekend.

The 1-0 loss to Minnesota United on Sunday was their first in 2021.

And yet, as difficult as it was for their fans to see the defeat, Seattle weren’t that bad.

On second viewing, they were unlucky to have not walked away with at least a draw.

Without some of their top names, the Sounders were still able to look dangerous with several chances that needed to be saved by Minnesota goalkeeper Tyler Miller.

Seattle were impressive in the narrow result, and regardless of their undefeated streak now being over, the match highlighted how they can continue to enforce their style of play away from home.

Seattle Are Imposing During Their Road Games

Of their six matches away from home, the Sounders have claimed three wins, two draws and just one single defeat — which was against Minnesota last week.

With a knack for efficient finishing and excellent defensive interventions at home and away, the Sounders rarely bring down their level of play, no matter the venue.

Austin are almost on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Regularly having problems with scoring and defending chance creation, they’ve constantly been a step or two behind their opponents all season.

And although they claimed that big win against Portland, there’s so much more that Austin must fix.

Are Austin On The Right Track Yet?

It must have been easy to get swept up in the excitement of the 4-1 win over Portland earlier this month.

The result not only showcased the first MLS goal scored by Austin in their venue, but also the ambitions of a team that were hungry for their first statement victory.

But that said, there hasn’t been much else praise for the team in the last couple of months outside of that win.

Their victory over Portland has been their only one in their last 10 games.

And after seeming to find a focal point to turn things around, they quickly went back to their old form with a painful 2-0 loss at home to LAFC on July 7th.

As per usual, Austin couldn’t capitalize on their chances and allowed far too many opportunities in their own half.

All Signs Point To The Sounders Quickly Claiming Points Once Again

There was an interesting quote from Sounders manager Brian Schmetzer after their 13-game undefeated streak was snapped last week.

It’s a sign that the standard at this club is very, very high. I’m proud of the fact that we started the season with 13 unbeaten. They never quit. In that sense, I’m very proud of putting another record together

Said Seattle’s coach after the loss to Minnesota.

And Schmetzer is right.

Without key players, fans of the club should be ecstatic with how things have been going.

Backups and alternates have been able to be plugged into the system, a long list of goalscoring opportunities have been created, and a record was ultimately set.

The squad’s mentality is at an elite level right now — which likely means they’ll be right back to push for three points on Thursday.
