Atlanta Hawks vs New York Knicks Predictions and Pick

The Atlanta Hawks are working their way back into playoff contention, in part due to great ball pressure. The Knicks have had their number through this season though, mostly due to the size and switching of New York’s wings. Given their recent run and aim for the playoffs, expect the Hawks to take their sole win of this season series.

How Can the Hawks Beat the Knicks?

This meeting with the New York Knicks will be the last chance for Atlanta to take a win in this season’s series. Not only will they need to make up for their past issues against New York, but they’ll need to find production from others with John Collins out.

Atlanta hasn’t been able to solve their offensive issues against the Knicks, as they’ve been held to just 95.0 points on 40.7% shooting through three games this season. They’ll also need to overcome New York’s size in the paint, as they are being outrebounded 43.0 to 48.0.

The Hawks need to focus on their offensive game and find quality opportunities to beat New York. If they can’t get their offence going early, the advantage is New York’s as the game wears on.

Hawks Key Player: (G) Trae Young

If you’re looking for who will lead the Hawks to victory, look no further than guard Trae Young and his deadly scoring ability. The Knicks have gotten the better of him in their last three meetings, but he’ll need to build on his performance from Atlanta’s last game.

In Young’s last outing, a loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, the Hawks guard posted 21 points, 10 assists, and 5 rebounds in 33 minutes of play. Young struggled from the field, shooting just 5 of 14 overall, but he tried to compensate with an 8 of 8 night from the free throw line.

Young is the kind of player that can change the game with his offence alone. But defeating the Knicks will only occur if he can be efficient while doing so. He committed 7 turnovers in his last game, a number he must trim in order to have the most efficient night possible against New York.

How Can the Knicks Beat the Hawks?

The New York Knicks have had the advantage over the Atlanta Hawks through their series this season. However, New York need to improve on their current form in order to take down the Atlanta Hawks.

In their last game, a loss to the Utah Jazz, New York’s defence left much to improve on. They allowed the Jazz to shoot 45.9% from the field while also allowing 17 three-point field goals. To make things worse, New York couldn’t get their own offence going, shooting just 37.3% from the field but succumbing to Utah’s shot blockers.

New York are at their best when they can combine the success of their three-point shooting and inside game. Against a Hawks team that ranks 23rd in two-point field goal percentage allowed (54.0%) and 23rd in blocks (4.4), the Knicks should have an easier time getting their offence going.

Knicks Key Player: (G-F) RJ Barrett

After their loss to the Utah Jazz, the New York Knicks fell even further out of the playoff race. Due to Julius Randle’s behaviour, it’s better to bet on RJ Barrett’s production in this matchup. Despite the losses, there’s plenty from their last game to build on.

In a loss to the Utah Jazz, RJ Barrett posted 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists in 43 minutes of play. He shot 8 of 20 from the field, while also converting on 4 of his 8 three-point field goal attempts.

If he can improve on his turnovers, as he committed 4 against Utah, Barrett can lead his Knicks to victory. Without any dedicated playmakers, Barrett’s all-around game will be tested.
